Moon Power

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens, you have made them bright, precious and fair

Above us is the moon, radiant with its silvery light. A disc in the night sky that waxes, comes to full fruition and then wanes. It is generally believed, in most ancient cultures that the moon is a feminine goddess and the bright, golden sun is male.

Here is our first myth about how the Moon and Sun came to be.

When the Creator and his/her angels had finished making this new world, that was called Earth, they stood back and wondered if it needed anything more.

"It will need a sun to light the way during the day!" said Apollo with a golden smile.

"And it will need a feminine orb to light the magical night. It will need a silvery moon!" exclaimed Lilith with a flash of her dark eyes.

The Creator nodded and with a wave of celestial hands, so two orbs appeared in the sky over Earth. One was large and golden and the other smaller and silvery.

The Creator spoke to Gaia who was the guardian spirit of Earth. I give you light for the day and night. Look after my creation well!

Gaia nodded for already she loved the green Earth and its blue oceans. She had ideas for animals and people who would suit this new world. And in time, she made men and women. She noticed that the men, who were very active and a little aggressive, loved the daytime and worshipped the sun, as Ra.

The women however, who were gentler and wiser worshipped the silvery orb that they called Luna, the Moon. So, Gaia in her wisdom, endowed the males with the energies of the sun and the females were given the mysterious and softer energies of the moon. So it has been, for countless millennia.

Have you ever stood outside on a night of soft moonbeams and felt the silvery rays of the moon? As a female, it should be a calm and restorative energy for you. Many of us are unfortunately, so distanced from the night sky and nature in general that it has become a fearful place rather than the calming, inspirational refuge that it was meant to be.
