Ride With Me - Misha Talea

    Ride With Me

Selena awoke with a headache.  Sleep had eluded her the night before until close to dawn.  She opened her eyes slowly, glad she kept her room darker than many people did.  She wasn’t a morning person at any rate because she’d grown up helping in the bar and there’d been many late nights in her young years.

High school had been torture sometimes because of how early she’d needed to be up, but she’d struggled through with good grades and made her father proud of her.  Ron King had been a hero to her, a larger than life man who had poured all his love on his only child after his wife had run off.  He’d taught his daughter everything she needed to know about running the Spur.

She sat up on the side of her bed and stretched as she thought about her dad and what he would say about what she’d done that night one week earlier.  Even though she was alone, she felt heat suffuse her cheeks as shame gripped her.  She knew that Ron would have flipped out on the Vipers and on her.

Tears dripped down her face and landed in the sink.  With great effort, Selina composed herself.  She brushed away the tears and stepped into the shower.

The Rusty Spur opened at noon every day.  There was the occasional customer, but certainly no rush during the day.  Usually, around four in the afternoon, there were workers from the local pet food factory who came in for a drink after their shift and things were a little busy, but not demanding.  During the afternoon hours, Selina studied her business websites and tried to figure out a possible sideline that would bring in more funds.

She was trying to do that but couldn’t seem to concentrate.  To her consternation, she was worried about the Vipers, Darrell, in particular, even though she was angry with them.  Selina tried hard to keep the memory of that night at bay, but the images came unbidden.  She wouldn’t have minded it so much if it hadn’t been in front of all those strange men.  Kissing Darrell and having his hands all over her had been erotic and exciting, but she wasn’t into exhibitionism.

Selina was no prude, but she would have preferred to be in private with
