About this ebook

What is a girl to do when her perfect partner starts being secretive and goes out in his Posh Coat without her?

Running a Coffee Shop with the man of her dreams is Poppy's ultimate idea of heaven and she should be on cloud nine, instead of worrying what her boyfriend is hiding from her.

Determined to find out at any cost, Poppy enlists her best friend to help as they set out on their detective escapades, often helped with a glass or two of Fizz, dragging a few unexpected people with them along the way.

Hilarious, outrageous and often touching, Poppy finds that everything is not always as it seems, and to always be prepared for your past to surprise you at the least expected moment.

The third romantic comedy short story follows on from A Working Affair and A Deceptive Affair, the hilarious Coffee Series books from new author Jessica Jaye.

A Social Affair - Jessica Jaye

    Chapter One

‘Can I get a Cubano and a Flat White for Table 2?’

‘Table 4 want a Vienna, a Five Spices and an Organic Bolivian.’

‘Table 3 want to try our new Flavoured Colombian Coffee in Swiss Chocolate Almond.’

    Ah, music to my ears!

‘Table 1 have been waiting 20 mins - come on guys get a move on!’

    NOT music to my ears!!

I looked up from my laptop and as much as I enjoy seeing the hustle and bustle of our blossoming coffee shop, I can see Suzie and Tom looking stressed and stretched to their limits.

In fairness to them both, they are stretched with smiles on their faces. Or maybe that’s because they had a good shag last night!

In the six months since Michael and I set up our Coffee shop, it’s been a whirlwind (Oh, good name for the next new coffee! Always working.)

We have been blessed with amazing support from friends and coffee drinkers alike, all eager to help our new venture be a success. And what a success it’s turning out to be.

With two new specialised coffees introduced each month along with evening taster sessions, our name and reputation was fast spreading near and far.

Michael has been amazing. Michael IS amazing. Sigh. Drool. Concentrate Poppy.

Michael has been amazing. From meeting the designers to fitting the coffee shop out, to sourcing the finest coffee beans, he’s worked his butt off. And what a fine butt it is!!

Whilst Michael has been travelling the world for the best products at the best prices, I’ve been putting together the weekly taster evenings and managing the day to day running of the coffee shop.

All this has been great for the business. Not so great for the relationship.

    I was on it!!

I rang my beloved with the great butt.

‘Dinner this evening? I’ve booked our favourite restaurant, and I’ve got a special surprise for you after,’ I whispered in my most sexiest voice. I liked to think I can still keep the excitement going in our sex life.

Michael sounded excited. ‘Really? Can’t wait to see them.’ See? Still got it. ‘I’ve been waiting for those new tablecloths for two weeks.’ Not got it, sniff.

‘Have to take a raincheck on dinner though, babe. Meeting with new suppliers. Gotta dash.’ And he was gone. Along with my libido.

    ✥✥✥

The next evening was our weekly coffee taster evening. I had worked hard on this one as we were trying out some new Coffee Cocktails and they were going down really well with our tasters.

My phone pinged showing I’d got 9 missed calls from Michael. I’d ignored him all day, partly because I wanted to concentrate on creating the right blend of coffee liqueur with chocolate and partly because I was still miffed about last night.

I rang him back as the Taster Evening was coming to a close.

    ‘Finally!’ he sighed.

‘Nice to speak to you too.’  Still miffed.

‘Sorry babe, I know I messed up last night but I got a really good deal on a new coffee blender, brand new to the market. We need to stay ahead of our competitors.’

‘Hmmmm,’ was all I could say, knowing he was right.

‘How about I make it up to you tonight? I’ll cook us a nice meal and get a bottle of your favourite fizz and we can curl up and watch that murder documentary you’ve been dieing to see.’ He knew the way to my heart; food and fizz with a sprinkle of murder. Can’t beat it.

‘Be home as soon as I finish clearing up,’ I laughed, no longer miffed. I  frantically shooed the last of the screeching coffee tasters out. I must remember to lower the alcohol content next time!

I put my phone in my pocket and turned to look at the mess from the evening. I sighed, suddenly feeling very tired at the thought of cleaning everything up.

I sat on the cosy sofa in the chill-out area and piled the coffee cocktail glasses onto the tray, sipping the dregs along the way.

Hmmm, not bad if I do say so myself, though the alcohol really did hit that spot. Maybe I’ll just try another mix ...........
