Chapter 1
Sarah
I threw open the door to the Crazy Brew quickly, hoping the line would magically be shorter than it was every other day of the week. The long line looped around a small partition in the café as usual, against my internal pleading with higher powers. I groaned internally and filed in at the very end of the line, watching a barista’s face grow paler at the morning rush.
As I took my place realizing I’d be late to class, my eyes floated up to the back of the man in front of me. All of my thoughts seemed to stop at once. He was a full head taller than me, and I couldn’t help but notice his suit was well pressed. My eyes took his back in quickly, lingering a little too long on his firm shoulders, and then moved swiftly to the menu. I felt my cheeks turn a shade redder as I ran a hand through my hair to calm down. Yikes, when was the last time I had been this attracted to someone’s back?
My eyes skimmed the menu and I quickly located the simple cappuccino I wanted. The man suddenly turned to the side to look at the menu, too. He was sliding a smartphone into his pocket, and stood very confidently with his hands on his hips. His sharp jawline and 5 o’clock shadow made my cheeks darken. I looked down at my little tan flats almost immediately to hide it.
His shoes were very close to mine due to the packed shop. They were nicer than any I’d ever be able to afford. His shoes were a shiny black and looked brand new, as though he had a closet full and just so happened to choose those today. They also dwarfed my little ladies size 7 flats, making my cheeks burn somehow redder.
Crushing the crazy feelings flowering in my chest, I looked back up at the menu. Maybe I should order something else—something wild that I’d never tried before! That would take my mind off of this man standing next to me, who is probably married. I skimmed the menu developing a completely wild order with extra caramel and whipped cream, to comfort my little heart when this man ultimately walked off without a word.
Do you come here often?
A deep voice shook my world and nearly made my breath stop. There’s no way this guy is talking to me.
I looked over hesitantly to see
