Sometimes you have to be a little bad to get what you want.

Growing up, I was always the good girl. Or at least I was good enough to never get caught. I got straight As in school, was always home before my curfew, and was adored by all my teachers. On paper, I was a perfect angel.

    On paper.

The truth was, I was living a double life from the very beginning, and I was very very good at it. My weekends weren’t spent at the library, studying for yet another exam. I spent them in frat parties, downing cheap beer and hooking up with college boys.

Halfway through high school, my parents moved us into a big house in a swanky neighborhood, so my double life grew even deeper.

I was always conscious that I was getting judged by everyone just because I didn’t grow up in Beverly Hills with all the rich girls on the block. So if I wanted to have a couple beers or catch a dick, I had to hide it or else I’d be seen as just another trashy girl causing trouble in a good, clean neighborhood.

I was so sick of it.

When I was in college, the only thing that changed was I didn’t have to work so hard to hide from my parents.

    And especially my best friend.

Hiding my weekend hobbies from my mother and father was always easy. They worked more than they were at home, so they were both always a bit oblivious to everything that went on in the house. But my best friend Sidney? He was another story.

Sidney noticed everything about me. He was always the first one to praise a good grade or admonish me for being ten minutes late for my curfew. He was only two years older than me, but in his eyes that made him an authority on everything.

From anyone else, especially from another privileged boy, it would have been infuriating, but Sidney really did mean well. He spent tons of his free time tutoring and volunteering anywhere that needed a hand, and his helpful nature bled into every part of his life. If I called him out on it, he’d sputter and apologize, but he was right back to his usual self the next day.

And he was just so sweet, I could never stay mad at him.

Of course, since he went through a serious growth spurt when high school was almost over, I suddenly wasn’t exactly looking for friendly guidance.
