About this ebook
The fog that rolled in off Lake Michigan that November morning was not an unusual phenomenon. But when Peter finished buttoning his coat to ward off the chill, he realized he was no longer alone in the lakeside cemetery. Was his past catching up with him?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved loved LOVED this short story! It reminds me a lot of 'A Christmas Carol', particularly in Scrooges meeting with Marley.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Our protagonist is an unpleasant young man in need of a lesson of the spiritual kind. There are spirits taking on the task of delivering that lesson. The issue for me was a lack of conflict: Peter is a bad guy but other than bullying his sister it's not clear why exactly he's in line for the Ebenezer Scrooge Treatment Plan. The spirits are a tame lot as well. Maybe a repentant soul may have spiced things up but as they all seem weirdly happy with their incorporeal existence it's hard to see how effective they are.

THE UNFORGOTTEN
When I came into my inheritance, I built a house next to the cemetery. The site was excellent, being at the high point of the bluff that overlooks Lake Michigan. From the wide windows of my home I could watch the vast lake tumble and shift in its ever-changing palette of greens, grays and blues. Whenever the sun shone, the lake glowed azure or turquoise. If clouds loomed overhead the water was a stormy gray, white-flecked with the waves that dashed unceasingly on the crescent of debris-scattered sand far below my house.
The restlessness of the great lake suited my own fidgety mood. I was close to the Chicago train for business, or a night of city living and a meal at my club. For the rest of the time, I was content with the country club that was the town’s greatest asset. I was at leisure to fill my days with polo, hunting or golf according to the season.
On Sundays, when play was forbidden, I would make my dutiful way to church, where I would sit and yawn. Sunday afternoons were better, with their quiet country picnics and rambles suitable for the Sabbath. Young ladies I knew aplenty, but I laughed in my sleeve at their efforts—and
