Back to School
Jacob was headed off to the first night of his new evening class. It was not a college course, or even an accredited one, but one that offered life credit
. He had applied for this program that was from a motivational course website.
The course was to prepare him to be the best possible person that he could possibly be. The marketing claimed the course would help make your mind think clearer so you can create your own success
.
The class was being held in a local park municipality shelter building, far in the woods of the township park. Jacob thought it was an odd location, however the organization that was conducting the class was not from the area and was only going to be here temporarily, so it made sense to hold it someplace cheap with no-frills. Usually a hotel conference room is rented for these things
he thought as he traversed through some rocky tree-lined back roads when suddenly he saw the old building and adjoining gravel parking lot. There were a couple of cars parked there already.
Jacob was excited to attend this class, as everything on the course syllabus seemed to indicate there were a lot of positive new things he would learn. He had read and re-read it a dozen times. He wanted something to inspire him, help him see the world differently and perhaps network with some like-minded people. Jacob was in his late thirties and just wanted something to make him feel alive, not just going through the motions day after day. Despite his many years of experience at his job, he was treated like an indentured servant. His rear only got kissed when upper management was up against a tight deadline and their problem suddenly became his.
When Jacob went into the building he saw that there were only a handful of people there all gathered around within what looked like an old classroom from the 1960's. There was a gruff, sharp dressed man that had the appearance of a middle aged, mustached lawyer talking to another man dressed in stylish business casual clothes, who looked like a "Wall Street or
IBM" type. This business man smiled and said hello as Jacob entered the room, while the lawyer-looking fellow shot Jacob a quick glance and turned his attention back to the business fellow, as if Jacob was not worthy of acknowledgment.
There also were two women in the back of the room. One appeared to be young, dressed wildly but attractive, and she gave the vibe of your typical rocker gal. She had a tattoo that read Heavy Metal Forever
on her shoulder. The other lady looked a little harsher, like an older addict who lived to see the inside of one too many bars or
