About this ebook

When a terrorist organisation makes good on its threat to lock down a residential area and mass murder innocents there is one man who is determined not to become their victim; nor is he prepared to see harm befall his daughter and ex partner.

After masterminding an escape from his apartment, Andy Bruce has to negotiate his way through the local area in order to reach his destination a few miles away. The hazards are many as members of the organisation litter the streets, killing anything they see; human or otherwise.

Can this average working man make it through hostile streets and dark rural areas to reach his destination?

Writing is my life. It's all I yearn to do when I wake in the morning. Since the age of twelve, I have been writing novel-length stories; however, I lacked the confidence to push them into the public eye. Until now! My latest WIP is something I intend to submit for publication and finally live the dream. In the meantime, I have started a blog called The Adventures of an Average, White Man... (www.paulebailey.com) in order to boost my profile and practice new styles of writing. I have been writing shorter fiction stories on there too, which brings me here. I intend to publish my short stories and novelettes in order to see how they go down with the wider world. Critique from peers and professionals is necessary if I'm going to realise my ambitions and grow as a writer in the process. I hope you enjoy my work and please be sure to leave reviews.

    Dead End - Paul.E.Bailey

    1. NIGHT GAMES

I’m not entirely sure why I always do this to myself. To say I’m absolutely bloody knackered is an understatement. What time is it? What does it matter? I can’t come off the game while it’s at such a critical point otherwise I’ll just have to start it all again and I won’t get the chance tomorrow as I’ll be out all day at work. The less said about that the better! Andy Bruce; the working class hero! Yeah, right! No; I’d better power through or I’m just going to procrastinate over it.

Remember the sniper. Stay in cover until he pops his head up, let him take his shot and then do him. There he goes. Damnit; missed! Second time’s a charm. I’ve got my eye in now. There he goes again. Wham! Have that you bastard! I’m good at this game. Even when I’m shattered I can pick my way through like a pro. Now that Mr Sniper is taken care of, I can head on down the stairs and take out all of his mates.

really need to get to bed. I’d better make this quick.

This seems like a good place for cover. I’ll camp here and see where all the enemies go when they tip into the area. The red dots are appearing on the outer edges of the mini-map. Christ on a bike! That’s a lot of baddies. For a moment, I wish there weren’t as many because I could really do with this being over as quickly as possible, but I can see they’re just lower level rebels as they filter in. I could kill twenty of these in a minute with one hand tied behind my back and a blindfold on. One by one, they take up their positions. One by one, they all get sized down. It’s so simple I even get an opportunity to look at my phone between kills.

How in hell did it get to be half past midnight? I could swear it was only ten the last time I looked. I’ve got to be up in six hours.

Right; that’s those jokers taken care of. What? Oh, come on! There are more red dots appearing. You mean to tell me that what I just did was only the first wave? Great! There’s a helicopter inbound now too. Back into cover; regroup and reload.

The guys coming in are the intermediary rebels. At least now I know to expect the higher level rebels after this, but if a chopper is coming in on this second wave then that means there’s either going to be a tank or a jet accompanying the third wave.

Intermediaries take a bit more effort to put down, but I take care of a few in quick succession before the git in the chopper starts shooting at me. He forces me to break cover and now I’m getting peppered from the rebels. Switch weapons and take that sucker down with an RPG.
