The practice hunt

When I see the massive billy goat up in the scrub on the rise I have to look hard to tell it’s not a deer. The pale colour is very goaty but so are some fallow, and the animal’s body is huge. A sapling obscures my view a bit so while I know it shouldn’t be a deer I’m not convinced. Yet.

I GRAB the binoculars. Goat. Good, because today I don’t want a deer. I’m here to cull goats. Unslinging the 9.3x62, I use the cover to stalk in closer.
