Michael Hardy (or just Hardy to his friends) was born in South East Asia and was raised strongly in his country’s culture. Between the ages of 7-9, his family moved to England and he developed a love for western culture, but it unfortunately left a staggering effect on his previous life in his home country, leaving him very out of place there. Even now, that effect still remains. Around the age of 10-13, a family/friend, Oliver, introduced him into the world of anime with “Vampire Hunter D” on VHS, which to him is a hero that he can relate to and has a big influence on him. He bought that same VHS tape from a friend who stole the tape from Oliver. He didn’t read the book or manga until he was in his mid 20’s, which have also influence him as a writer. By the time he went to college and university, his roommate Mike, who wanted to be a film director at the time, inspired him to write a film script, but Mike lost it when he went back to his home country. Hardy tried to rewrite that same story as a novel, but was tired of writing it again, but it still motivated Hardy to become a writer. Then, in the year 2010, influenced and inspired for his love of Vampire Hunter D, the love and hate for certain vampire flicks, video games, Western and Asian monster folklore, and a friend on YouTube, who is also a writer, he created Kris Hellion, a story that he has thought of since his college and university years. He hopes that people enjoy reading his book and would like to hear what people like or dislike about it. Hardy takes heavy influences from anime, live action films, mangas, super heroes, video games, folklore, and pieces of his life that create his vision of his creation, Kris Hellion.

    CHAPTER 1

    UNDEAD ARRIVAL

Night rises. Blue light lingers on the crowded bookshelves lining the countless hallways. Within the shadow-riddled heart of the library, silence roams through the rooms of knowledge. On this night, though, the books begin to rustle.

A blonde in her mid-twenties runs through the library, panting with fear. Blood gushing from her neck, staining her all-white clothing. She runs to escape a horrifying threat that no human should or could endure. She collapses near a window and while catching her breath, hears a deafening crash. The glass shatters and slashes her arms. She screams with unbridled anxiety and runs into another hall of books, not knowing what lies ahead. She comes to a complete stop between two bookshelves where a shadowy figure, human in shape, glistens with monstrous yellow eyes. The darkness prevents her from seeing it clearly, but from her expression it is obvious she knows exactly what it is. Horror creeps across her skin as she takes a step back. The shadowy figure opens its mouth and sticks out its tongue, but it is no ordinary tongue. Black saliva drips from the insect-like skin and razor sharp teeth protrude from the tip. Frightened by this grotesque tongue, the woman steps back further only to stop as she feels the presence of another creature behind her. She can hear a horrifying hissing sound, but is too terrified to turn around, knowing there is no escape. As the dark, monstrous figures draws closer with tremendous speed, she yells a horrified scream. The library is once again silent.

The afternoon skies are dark with fog that seeps all the way to the ground. There, a rough cement road with green grass and trees on either side. The fog gives an eerie feeling, as if something evil approaches. Or, perhaps, evil has already arrived. No sounds could be heard, not of animals or insects. Perhaps the innocent creature’s sense something evil, knowing that what comes walking down this road will not show mercy or remorse.

Through the fog, a white and black police car can be seen driving down the road with its headlights on. Inside, the back seat is clean but the front is filled with wrappers of chocolate and sweets. The driver is a police cadet in a grey uniform with a name tag that says Todd Summers, a Caucasian man in his mid-20s with short brown hair. As he drives slowly through the thick fog, he is constantly looking around, obviously seeking something despite this visually blinding fog.

Where is this person? he says out loud, They said to meet them here, right? He retrieves a small paper out of his pocket and stares at it. It does say they should be on this road out of town. he says to himself, as he returned the paper back to his pocket. Freaking fog! I wish it would clear up. I can barely see a thing on this road.

All this driving has made Todd thirsty so he grabs a soda from his cup holder. The soda explodes when he opens it, dripping onto his shirt and the crotch of his pants. Oh, man! Todd reacts. Pissed by his little accident, his eyes focus on his wet crotch as he tries to clean it with a used tissue he found below the brake handle. His head is down as he wipes the liquid off his pants, but then, suddenly, he looks up and in a panic, quickly brakes the car.

    SHIT! screams Todd.

Why did he brake? There is a small figure in the road. Through the glass, he sees a little girl, just standing where his car almost was, unmoved. Todd avoided her, but ended up off the road.

Todd’s heart is racing like crazy. Shocked and angry, he turns off the car engine, steps out and confronts the girl. Walking in a rush, he walks off the dirt, onto the road, and stands right in front of her. Hey! You got a death wish, kid?! he yells, but the girl doesn't even respond. Through the eyes of the cadet, she seems to be around ten years-old, Caucasian, long blonde hair that almost covers her whole back, wearing pants, a dark green jacket, and a red t-shirt with a large demon in the center. The most interesting aspect is that the jacket and pants have imprints of leaves on them. While it looks like it’s made out of leather, like a biker gang member would wear, on closer inspection it looks like they were made of actual leaves. Her boots seem to look like they’re made from a hardened brown cloth wrapped around her feet with sharp but rounded tips. Her green pants seem to be attached to her shoes with a silver pin that connects to her shoe like a rubber band. Her silver reflective sunglasses cover her eyes and she carries a red military drawstring duffel bag on her back, which, like her jacket, is made out of red leaves. Her facial expression disturbs him the most. She seems unimpressed, emotionless, and yet, angry. The anger isn’t obvious but he feels its presence just by being near her. Who is this girl, he wonders?

Showing concern, he slowly moves his left arm towards her right shoulder. Hey, are you okay? he asks, but suddenly, she grabbed Todd's left arm and tossed him onto his car’s hood. After the impact, Todd can’t believe how strong she is. He suddenly feels a thump on the hood of the car and his head is pushed down onto the car hood.

In pain and with his head pressed onto the car’s hood by the girl, Todd tries to break free, but to his disadvantage the girl grabs his left arm and twists it. The pain is unbearable, making it even more difficult for him to move.

Ow! What are you doing? he shouts, I'm a cop.

She suddenly answers, I am well aware of who you are, Cadet Todd Summers.

He is surprised that this girl knows his name. She quickly releases him, jumps off the hood of the car, and they end up looking face to face.

Didn’t your family teach you never to touch a lady? Todd feels astonished by her brute strength.

Damn! You’re strong. Wait, how did you know my name? Oh, you saw my name tag, right?

Actually, we know your dad and his stories of the things that go bump in the nights and a little secret organization that he keeps hush-hush, the girl reveals.

Whoa! Todd comes to a realization. You're from the organization. I guess that means I'm your contact. But, wait, you’re a little girl. Todd is concerned as he was expecting someone much older.

No shit, Sherlock. Did you figure that out yourself or did you need your special detective powers? she says, her voice heavy with sarcasm.

Hey! Watch your language! Look, is this some kind of joke? This is way too dangerous for the likes of you. You could get hurt. What would your mom say? SMACK! The girl throws her duffel bag into right his face. She seems even angrier now.

If you ever say anything about my mom again, even say the word, I’ll fucking kill you. Now get in the fucking car and let’s go to the town. NOW! Serious anger flowed through her as she said this, with her fist clenched as if ready to punch today. Todd’s fear rises as he can feel the violent urges radiating off this girl.

He decides to simply nod his head and walk to the car with her duffel bag in his hand. He places it in the backseat of the police car as the girl climbs in the front. She looks at her surroundings with a displeased look on her face. The wrappers and food garbage irk her and Todd notices it.

Oh, sorry, he apologizes, I have a sweet tooth.

Whatever, answers the girl uncomfortably, Just drive this piece of crap already.

After that rough chat, Todd starts the car, drives back onto the road and turns in the direction he came from. For a while, there is nothing but the sound of the accelerating engine. The curious young cadet takes a look at the girl and wonders whether or not she really is a member of the organization or if this is some practical joke. The girl seems rebellious with her arms folded and her feet up on the glove compartment. His curiosity for the girl keeps his eyes on her more than the road. She notices him staring. Are you some kind of pervert? STOP STARING! she says with an angry tone.

Sorry, he apologizes and looks away, I was just expecting somebody a little older, more professional. I can’t believe they sent me a little girl.

Well, I’m more than capable of taking on this job. I mean how many 10-year-olds do you know that could have tossed you like a feather back there?

You’re 10? Well, in all honesty, not many, that’s for sure.

"Well, unless you don’t want me to do that again, you better not tick me off. Got it!?

Okay, okay. I got it. This conversation makes Todd nervous, so he changes direction, So, I never caught your name.

You never asked. Let’s just get to the school already. I’m not here on vacation.

Well, sure. I guess they told you why you were sent here, right? I mean, what can a kid like you do?

The sooner we do this, the better. And don't call me a kid. I'm more than just a kid, she scoffs.

What do you mean? She takes of her glasses and stares at the cadet and he’s shocked when he really looks at her eyes.

My name.... is Kris Hellion. Her name sends a chill down Todd's spine. She is legendary by name.

    So, that means you're a...

Yes. Kris interrupts his sentence. Now, he knows what he is about to behold.

When Todd was young, he heard stories from his father about creatures that hadn’t been seen by human eyes. Monsters. As ridiculous as it sounds, they do exist within and outside of sight of human society. From what Todd has heard, one of the most legendary monsters is Kris Hellion. She is a valuable member of the mysterious organization that investigates unworldly evil mysteries that has hundreds of members all over the world. Her name is renowned among its members and the monsters of this world. The only thing everyone should know is to never get her angry. They say her anger knows no bounds and that once it has been unleashed, you’re better off dead. But for whatever reason, if they sent her here, she means business.

As they drove along the road, Kris sees a sign that reads, Welcome to Statham, The Town of Paradise. For Kris, that sentence is just screaming for evil creatures to silently murder and feed on the town’s inhabitants, their victims. As they continue driving, the fog dissipates revealing beautiful skies and a setting sun. Through the fog Kris can see the town of Statham. From her knowledge of the town, it was once rich with people and tourists from miles away coming to see their mines in the mountainous areas. They came to get gold, and many in the past have claimed millions. It was a miner’s dream come true. But as the years went by, the mines became barren and the gold rush was long abandoned.

Through the windshield, she sees many buildings, both stone and wood, and the townspeople living their daily lives, shopping and tending to their families.

This is a quiet town now but some tourists still come to see if they can find gold in the mountains, the young policeman suddenly speaks with certain nervousness in his voice, People would come here just to raise a family and to get away from the city life. But with all these murders and people going missing, it's really spooking everyone. Three grisly murders have happened and 15 people have gone missing in the past month. Now the town has a 6:30 p.m. curfew to try to keep people safe. Curious about the time, Kris grabs her cell phone from her right pocket. It was only for 4:33 p.m. She immediately puts away her phone.

Give me some info, man, says Kris, The most recent murder. It happened 2 days ago, right?

Yes. Todd answers, Her name was Anna Tindal. She’s single with no family members what-so-ever. She was a librarian for Statham Elementary School. She worked there for just a year. A kid found her in the school library, covered in blood the next morning. It was different from the other murders.

    How so?

She had the same murder marks, but she also had more on her body that weren't recent.

A follower? she answers to his face.

    What?

It means she could be their willing human food supply.

Food supply? Are you telling me that she was willing to give her blood? If that's the case, why would they kill her?

Maybe that’s why I’m here, to find those answers.

Yeah, well I wish you came here a month ago. You could have saved a lot of people in this town.

Don’t be a smartass, Mr Lawman. I’m here now and be glad that I am. Also…. Kris punches Todd on the shoulder.

    Ow! What was that for?

    A friendly reminder.

    A friendly reminder of what?

To not get me in a bad mood. Now get me to that school.

The sun over Statham radiates an orange glow over the Statham Elementary School. The school is surrounded by a forest with no other buildings in sight. The front has a wide cemented path with a grassy field surrounding the whole building, all leading up to the steps and its glass doors. It's a large two storey building, blue in colour. Behind the school is a combination of grass and concrete, obviously for sports recreation, a playground for the children to play in, and a few tables for lunches or a rest after a hard day of schoolwork.

The police car parks right in front of the cement path leading to the entrance. Kris and the rookie police officer look at the school worriedly.

You know I feel bad about the kid who found the body of the librarian, Todd says with sadness, She’s probably scarred for life.

It’s just a kid. Kris says with a stern voice. Just give it some candy and toys and it’ll be happy as a dumbass clam.

Todd is offended by her coarseness, Let’s just get in there already.

As Kris goes to open the door, a ringing sound came from the pocket of the young police man,. He grabs his phone and answers, Hello, could you hold on just a sec? He covers the receiving end of the phone and quickly asks Kris, Could you go on ahead? I will be right with you. It’s my chief.

Not amused by her lackey's lack of helping, Kris exits the vehicle. She puts her glasses back on and readies herself. As she walks towards the school, she senses death in the air, as if something evil has been on these school grounds. Whatever it is, this unnatural feeling certainly seems eager. What creature would want to kill the librarian, Kris wonders? She wastes no time, though, and starts walking faster to the glass entrance, but as she is about to open the door, it suddenly opens.

Oh! Kris takes a step back from the doors and the woman standing there. She is beautiful, possibly in her late-20s, with long black hair that reaches her shoulders, and wearing a long sleeve red shirt and blue jeans. She’s holding books in her arms with the word, Mathematics on it. That this woman is a teacher is the first thing that comes into Kris's mind. For a moment, the woman stares at Kris, making her feel uncomfortable, as if the woman knows her.

Well, aren't you dressed funny? says the woman, Aren't you too young to have that punk rock look?

Kris stares at her seriously and the woman can’t help but notice. I'm sorry. Did I insult you? the woman asks.

Kris doesn’t answer and tries to get past the woman by walking left to the other door. The woman immediately blocks her way. Whoa, where do you think you’re going? she asks with a gleeful smile.

Will you move it? says Kris loudly. She attempts to go in again by going right, but the woman stops her again.

Well, I'm sorry, sweetie. But the school is closed. I can't just... let you in.

I have no time for this crap. Move it! Anger filled Kris's heart.

Hey! Is that anyway for you to speak to an adult?

Lady, you are this close to getting your ass kicked. Now, get out of the way! The little girl’s hand clinched hard, resentment flowing into her fist, ready to give pain.

Now, hold on just a minute, missy. Who taught you how to talk like that? You are not gonna get in here with that attitude. What would your parents say?

They would say, ’Get the fuck out of my way or I will break you!’ Now, piss off!

Hey! Just before Kris can open a door, the teacher grabs her hand, How dare you talk to me that way?! You are one mean little girl.

Let go of my arm, lady. Kris’s blood is boiling.

No, I won’t. Not until you apologize.

As Kris is about to spitefully strike with her loose arm, a distraction comes in the form of a police cadet. Hey! Both Kris and the woman looked towards him. Sorry, I took so long, says Todd, as he ambles towards them, My chief needed to talk to me about something. Oh! Hi, Lisa!

Todd, how are you? says the woman, apparently Lisa, as she lets go of Kris and shakes Todd’s hand.

I'm fine, and you? Todd asks.

Well, I’m okay. I met this charming young lady here. But I think she needs more charm. Both looked at Kris, but she doesn’t seem to care as she just folded her arms.

So, you met my niece. Kris was surprised by Todd’s remark but quickly realizes it’s a ploy.

I didn't know you had a niece. She doesn't look like you.

She’s from my mom’s side. All my family members look different on her side of the family. And we’re very distant, he adds quickly.

I see. Anyway, what are you and your niece doing here?

We're scouting for schools. You see, my relatives are planning to live here and they originally wanted to come themselves but work got in the way, so they sent Kris here first so that she can look around the school.

I see, Lisa was in deep thought for a second, her eyes glaring lovingly at Kris. And then, Hey, here's an idea. Why don’t you bring her here for a one day trial? I’ll get her a visitor’s pass. She doesn't have to apply but I will keep an eye on her for you and I will assign her a few classes. It’ll save you some hassle.

Forget it! That's a stupid idea. Kris interrupts.

Well, I like it, says Todd, Plus, you just came in today. It would be better if you got some rest before you try anything. Plus, it’ll help you get the feel of the school.

    I don't think...

Great! Kris is interrupted by Lisa, I will see you guys tomorrow then.

    Right. says Todd.

I'm sorry if you came all this way for nothing.

    That's okay.

Lisa turns to Kris and kneels in front of her, looking through her reflective glasses. Kris was it? she asks, but Kris never answers, My name is Lisa. Lisa Lovenly. But you can call me Miss Lovenly. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Lisa extends her hand in greeting but Kris simply ignored it. Not a hand shaker, huh? How about a fist bump? She extends a fist in greeting, but like before, Kris does nothing but stared intensely. Okay, not that kind of person either. That’s strange. Anyway, I’m the math teacher at Statham Elementary School. I’m not sure what your problem is , but I would like to help you. And I can start by welcoming you to Statham. I hope you and your family will like it here and I hope tomorrow will be a great experience for you. So, what do you say? Let's forget about the little conversation we just had and be friends, okay? And why don't you take off your... Lisa's hand moved forward to grab Kris's sunglasses, but Kris quickly grabbed her hand before Lisa could even touch them.

Don't...touch...anything. she said harshly as she pushed Lisa's hand away and walked back to the car.

Lisa watches her worriedly as she walked away. The teacher rubbed her arm where
