Michael Hardy (or just Hardy to his friends) was born in South East Asia and was raised strongly in his country’s culture. Between the ages of 7-9, his family moved to England and he developed a love for western culture, but it unfortunately left a staggering effect on his previous life in his home country, leaving him very out of place there. Even now, that effect still remains. Around the age of 10-13, a family/friend, Oliver, introduced him into the world of anime with “Vampire Hunter D” on VHS, which to him is a hero that he can relate to and has a big influence on him. He bought that same VHS tape from a friend who stole the tape from Oliver. He didn’t read the book or manga until he was in his mid 20’s, which have also influence him as a writer. By the time he went to college and university, his roommate Mike, who wanted to be a film director at the time, inspired him to write a film script, but Mike lost it when he went back to his home country. Hardy tried to rewrite that same story as a novel, but was tired of writing it again, but it still motivated Hardy to become a writer. Then, in the year 2010, influenced and inspired for his love of Vampire Hunter D, the love and hate for certain vampire flicks, video games, Western and Asian monster folklore, and a friend on YouTube, who is also a writer, he created Kris Hellion, a story that he has thought of since his college and university years. He hopes that people enjoy reading his book and would like to hear what people like or dislike about it. Hardy takes heavy influences from anime, live action films, mangas, super heroes, video games, folklore, and pieces of his life that create his vision of his creation, Kris Hellion.

    CHAPTER 1

Night dawns. Blue light lingers across the hallways of books on shelves. Within the shadow-riddled heart of a library, blue light lingers across the plentiful shelves of books and down the countless hallways. Silence roams through the rooms of knowledge, but on this night, the books began to rustle.

A woman in her mid 20’s, with blonde hair and dressed in white, pants with fear runs through the library with blood gushing from her neck. She runs to escape a horrifying threat that no human should endure. She collapses near the window and while catching her breath for air, CRASH! The glass shatters and her arms get slashes from the glass. She screams with such anxiety which makes her run away and into another hall of books, not knowing what lies there. But she comes to a complete stop in the middle between 2 bookshelves. Along that dark hallway, a shadowy figure, human in shape, glistened with monstrous yellow eyes. She couldn't see what it was due to the darkness but her expression on her face knew what it is. Horror creeps into her skin as she takes a step back and the shadowy figure opens its mouth and protruding out of it is its tongue, but it is no ordinary tongue. It has an insect like skin with black saliva dripping from it and at its tip are sharp razor teeth. Frightened by the tongue, she steps back further only to stop once more as she feels the presence of another creature in that hall, behind her. The woman can hear a horrifying hissing sound as she is too afraid of turning around, knowing that there is no escape. As the dark monstrous figures draw closer with such speed, she yells a horrifying scream. The library is once again silent.

The afternoon skies are somewhat dark as fog covers it, including the surroundings. There, a rough cemented road with green growing grass and trees on the side. The fog gives an eerie feeling, as if something evil approaches. Or perhaps, evil has arrived. The sounds of animals or insects cannot be heard. Perhaps the innocent creatures there sense something evil, knowing that what comes walking down this road will not show mercy or remorse.

Through the fog, a police car, white and black in colour, can be seen, driving down the road with its headlights on. Inside of it, the back seat is clean but the front seat filled with wrappers of chocolate and sweets. The driver is a police cadet in a grey uniform with a name tag that says Todd Summers, a Caucasian man in his mid 20’s with short brown hair. As he drives slowly through this thick fog, his head is constantly looking around, obviously finding something through this visually blinding fog. Where is this person? he says out loud, They said to meet them here, right? He retrieves a small paper out of his pocket and stares at it. Well, it does say they should be on this road out of town. he says to himself, as he return the paper back to his pocket. Freaking fog! I wish it would clear up. I can barely see a thing on this road. All this driving has made Todd thirsty so he grabs a soda that is on his cup holder. As he opens his soda while driving, the soda burst with its liquids dripping onto his shirt and crotch area of his pants. Oh, man! Todd reacts. Pissed and annoyed by his little accident, his eyes focuses on his wet crotch area as he tries to clean it with used tissue that he got just below the brake handle. With his head down, as he wipes the liquid off his pants for a bit, he looks up and in a panic, brakes his car immediately. SHIT! screams Todd. Why did he brake? He sees a small figure in front of the road. Through the glass, he sees a little girl, just standing in front of his car, unmoved, even when he first saw her before trying to stop. The police car is able to avoid her but it ends up off the road.

Todd’s heart is racing like crazy. Shocked but angry, Todd turns off the car engine, steps out and confronts the girl. Walking in a rush, he walks off the dirt and onto the road and stands right in front of her. Hey! You got a death wish, kid?! He yells. But the girl doesn't even respond. Through the eyes of the cadet, she seems to be at the age of 8 or 12, Caucasian, long blonde hair that almost covering her whole back, wearing a dark green jacket, pants and boots with a red t-shirt with some sort of image of death, the grim reaper. The most interesting aspect is that the jacket and pants have imprints of leaves on it. Her silver reflective sunglasses cover her eyes and carrying a red duffel bag on her back. Her facial expression seems to disturb him the most. She seems unimpressed, emotionless and yet angry. The anger doesn't show but he feels its presence just by being near her. Who is this girl, he wonders?

Showing concern, he slowly moves his left arm towards her right shoulder. Hey, are you okay? He asks but suddenly, her right arm grabs Todd's left arm and she tosses him onto his car’s hood. After the impact, Todd couldn’t believe how strong she is. He suddenly feels a tump on the hood of the car and his head is pushed onto the car hood. In pain and his head pressed on its hood by the girl, he tries to break free but to his disadvantage, the girl grabs his left arm and twists it. The pain is unbearable, making it even more difficult for him to move. Ow! What are you doing? he shouts, I'm a cop. She suddenly answers, I am well aware of who you are, Cadet Todd Summers. He is surprised that this girl knows his name and she releases him, jumps off the hood of the car and ends up looking face to face with one another.

Didn’t your family teach you never to touch a lady? Todd feels astonished by her brute strength.

Damn! You’re strong. Wait, how did you know my name? Oh, you saw my name tag, right?

Actually, we know your dad and his stories of the things that go bump in the nights and a little secret organization that he keeps hush-hush.

Whoa! Then, he comes to a realization. You're from the organization. I guess that means I'm your contact. But wait, you’re a little girl. Todd feels concern.

No shit, Sherlock. Did you figure that out yourself or did you need your special detective powers to figure that one out? she says with sarcasm in her voice.

Hey! Watch your language. Look, is this some kind of joke? This is way too dangerous for the likes of you. You could get hurt. What would your mom say? SMACK! The girl throws her duffel bag into his face and Todd grabs with while it hit him. She seems even angrier at him now.

If you ever say anything about my mom again, even the little things, I’ll fucking kill you. Now get in the fucking car and let’s go to the town. NOW!

Seriousness and anger flows through her throat along with a clinching fist just ready to punch Todd when she said those words. Now, Todd really feels scared as he can feel the violent urges coming from this girl. He simply nods his head and walks to the car with her duffel bag in hand.

Cadet Summers places the duffel bag in the backseat of the police car as the girl enters the front. As the girl takes her seat, she looks at her surrounding with a displeasing look on her face. The sweet wrappers and food product garbage made her irk and Todd notices it. Oh, sorry. he apologizes, I have a sweet tooth for sweets. Whatever, answers the girl uncomfortably, Just drive this piece of crap already. After that rough chat, Todd starts the car, drives back on the road and turns to the direction he came from. For a while, there is nothing but the sound of the accelerating engine. The curious young cadet takes a look at the girl. He wonders whether or not that this girl is really a member of the organization. He wonders if this is still a practical joke. The girl seems rebellious with her arms folded and her legs crossed, lying it on the top of the glove compartment. His curiosity for the girl keeps his eyes on her more than on the road. She notices him staring. Are you some kind of pervert? STOP STARING! she says with an angry tone. Sorry, he apologizes and looks away, I was just expecting somebody a little older, more professional. I can’t believe they sent me a little girl.

Well, I’m more than efficient in taking on this job. I mean how many 10 year olds do you know that can toss you like feather back there?

You’re 10? Well, in all honesty, not a lot, that’s for sure.

"Well, unless you don’t want me to do that again, you better not tick me off, got it!?

Okay, okay. I got it. The conversation makes Todd nervous, So, I never caught your name.

You never asked. Let’s just get to the school already. I’m not here on vacation.

Well, sure. I guess they told you why you were sent here, right? I mean, what can a kid like you do?

The sooner we do this, the better. And don't call me a kid. I'm more than just a kid.

What do you mean? She takes of her glasses and stares at the cadet and he’s shocked when her eyes are revealed to him

My name.... is Kris Hellion. Her name sends a chill down Todd's spine. She is legendary by name.

    So, that means you're a...

Yes. Kris interrupts his conversation. Now, he knows what circumstances is about to behold here.

When Todd was young, he has heard stories from his father about creatures that haven’t been seen by human eyes and these creatures that he is referring to are Monsters. As ridiculous as it sounds, they do exist within and out of sight of the human society. From what Todd has heard, one of the most legendary monsters is Kris Hellion. She is a valuable member of the mysterious organization that investigates unworldly evil mysteries with hundreds of members all over the world. Her name was renowned among its members and the monsters of this world. The only thing that they should know is to never get her angry. They say her anger knows no bounds and once it has been unleashed, you were better off dead. But for whatever reason, if they sent her here, she means business.

As they drive along the road, Kris sees a sign that reads Welcome to Stratham, the town of paradise. For Kris, that sentence is just screaming for evil creatures to silently murder and feed on their victims. As the police car keeps driving on, the fog dissipates showing the beautiful skies and its sun setting for it. Through this, she can see the town of Stratham. From Kris’s knowledge of the town, it was once enriched with people and tourist from miles away to come to their mines in the mountainous areas. They came to get gold in which many in the past have claimed millions. It was a miners dream comes true. But as the years went by, the mines became barren and the gold rush was abandoned a long time ago.

As Kris sees the town through the car glass, she sees many buildings, both stone and wood and its townspeople living their daily lives, shopping and tending to their families. This is a quiet town now but some tourists still come to see if they can find gold in the mountains. The young policeman suddenly speaks with certain nervousness in his voice, People would come here just to raise a family and to get away from the city life. And with all these murders and people going missing, it's really spooking everyone. 3 grisly local murders have happened and 15 people many which have gone missing for the past month. And because of that, the town is under curfew at 6:30 pm. Curious about the time, she grabs her cell phone from her right pocket. It was only for 4:33 pm and she puts away her phone immediately. Give me some info, man, says Kris, The recent murder. It happened 2 days ago, right? Yes. Todd answers, Her name was Anna Tindal. She’s single with no family members what-so-ever. She was a librarian for Stratham Elementary School. She worked there for just a year. A kid found her in the school library, covered in blood the next morning. It was different from the other murders.

    How so?

She also had the same murder marks but she also had more on her body that weren't recent.

A follower? she answers to his face.

    What?

It means she could be their human willing food supply.

Food supply? Are telling me that she was willing to give her blood? If that's the case, why would they kill her?

Maybe that’s why I’m here, to find those answers.

Yeah, well I wished you came here a month ago. You could have saved many people in this town.

Don’t be a smartass, Mr. Lawman. I’m already here now and be glad that I am. Also…. Kris punches Todd on the shoulder.

    Ow! What was that for?

    A friendly reminder.

    A friendly reminder of what?

To not get me in a bad mood. Now get me to that school.

The skies of Stratham shine as the sun radiates an orange glow to the Stratham Elementary School. The school is located in a surround forest with no other buildings in sight. The front of the school has a wide cemented path with a grassy field surrounding the whole building that leads to the steps of it glass doors. It's a large 2 storey building, blue in colour, with a semi concrete/grass front yard. The back of the school has a concrete ground meeting with the grassy field, obviously for sports recreation and a playground for the children to play in while the grassy areas have a few tables are for lunches resting from a hard days of schoolwork.

The police car parks right in front of the cemented entrance path. Kris and the rookie police officer look at the school with such worry. You know I feel bad about the kid who found the body of the librarian, Todd says with sadness, She’s probably scarred for life. It’s just a kid. Kris says with a stern voice. Just give it some candy and toys and they’ll be happy as a dumbass clam. Todd feels offended by what she just said. Let’s just get in there already. As she is about to open the car door, a cell phone ring comes from the pocket of the young police man, and so he answers. Hello, could you hold on just a sec? he answers, and then he covers the receiving end of the phone and tells Kris, Could you go on ahead? I will be right with you. It’s my chief. Not amused by her lackey's lack of helping, Kris exits the vehicle. She puts her glasses back on and readies herself. As she walks down the cemented path, she sense death in the air, as if something evil has been on these school grounds. Whatever it is, it certainly feels that this unnatural feeling is eager. What creature would want to kill the librarian she wonders? But she wastes no time and starts walking faster to the schools glass entrance. As she gets there, with her hand ready to open the entrance, the door suddenly opens.

Oh! Kris takes a step back from the doors and it reveals a woman. She is beautiful, possible late 20s, long black hair that reaches her shoulders, wearing a long sleeve red shirt and blue jeans. Her arm is holding books to which Kris sees the words, Mathematics. A teacher is the first thing that comes into Kris's mind. For a moment, the woman stares at Kris and making her feel uncomfortable, as if the woman knows her. Well, aren't you dressed funny? says the woman, Aren't you too young to have that punk rock look? Kris gives a serious expression towards her and she notices. I'm sorry. Did I insult you? The woman asks. Kris never answers back. She tries to get past the woman by walking left to the other door but she immediately blocks her way. Whoa, where do you think you’re going? she asks with a gleeful smile. Will you move it? says Kris loudly. She attempts to go in again by going right but that lady stops her again.

Well, I'm sorry, sweetie. But the school is closed. I can't just... let you in.

I have no time for this crap. Move it! Anger fills Kris's heart.

Hey! Is that anyway for you to speak to an adult?

Lady, you are this close to getting your ass kicked. Now, get out of the way! The little girls’ hand clinches hard with resentment flowing into her fist, ready to give pain.

Now, hold on just a minute, missy. Who told you how to talk like that? You are not gonna get in here with that attitude. What would your parents say?

They would say Get the fuck out of my way or I will break you! Now, piss off!

Hey! Just before Kris is can open a door, the teacher grabs her hand, How dare you talk to me that way?! You are one mean little girl.

Let go of my arm, lady. Kris’s blood is boiling.

No, I won’t. Not until you apologize.

As Kris is about to strike in spite with her loose arm, distraction comes in a form of a police cadet. Hey! Both Kris and the woman look towards him. Sorry, I took so long, says Todd, walking towards them, My chief needed to talk to me about something. Oh! Hi, Lisa! Todd, how are you? says Lisa as she lets go of Kris and the little girl steps aside so they can both shake hands with one another. I'm fine, and you?

Well, I’m okay. I met this charming young lady here. But I think she needs more charm. Both look at Kris and she doesn’t seem to care as she folds her arms.

So, you met my niece. Kris is surprised by that remark but quickly finds out it’s a ploy.

I didn't know you have a niece. She doesn't look like you.

She is from my mom’s side. Many of my family member’s don’t look the same on her side of the family. And we are very distant.

I see. Anyway, what are you and your niece doing here?

We're scouting for schools. You see, my relatives are planning to live here and they originally wanted to come themselves but work got in the way, so they send Kris here first so that she can look around the school.

I see, Lisa in deep thought for a second with her eyes glaring lovingly at Kris. And then, Hey, here's an idea. Why don’t you bring her here for a 1 day trial? I’ll get her a visitor’s pass. She doesn't have to apply but I will keep an eye on her for you and I will assign her with a few classes. It saves her the trouble from putting up with the paper work.

Forget it! That's a stupid idea. Kris interrupts the conversation.

Well, I like it, says Todd, Plus, you just came in today. It would be better if you got some rest before you try anything. Plus, you will get the feel of the school.

    I don't think...

Great! Kris is interrupted by Lisa, I will see you guys tomorrow then.

    Right. Todd says.

I'm sorry if you came all the way for nothing.

    That's okay.

Lisa turns towards Kris and kneels right in front of her, looking through her reflective glasses. Kris was it? she asks but Kris never answers, My name is Lisa. Lisa Lovenly. But you can call me Miss Lovenly. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Lisa extends her hand in greeting but Kris simply ignores it. Not a hand shaker, huh? How about a fist bump? She extends a fist in greeting but like before, Kris does nothing but stares intensely. Okay, not that kind of person too. That’s awkward. Anyway, I’m the math teacher at Stratham Elementary School. I don’t know what your problem is but I would like to help you. And I can start by welcoming you to Stratham. I hope you and your family will like it here and I hope tomorrow will be a great experience for you. So what do you say? Let's forget about the little conversation that we had and just be friends, okay? And why don't you take off your... Lisa's hand moves forward to grab Kris's sunglasses before she quickly grabs her hand before she touches it. Don't...touch...anything. She says with a harsh tone voice as she pushes Lisa's hand away and walks back to the car. Lisa sees her walking away as she stands up with a look of worry and concern. The teacher rubs her arm as she feels the strong grip that Kris had when she held her. What's her problem? she asks Todd. Don't worry, Todd replies, She's stubborn. She's not exactly easy to warm up to. Give her some time. Anyway, I gotta go. It’s great seeing you.

    Yeah, you too.

The young lawman runs off towards his police car and Lisa sees him off as she locks the school doors behind her and she heads off to her car which she parks near the side of the school. As he rushes into his car, he sees Kris who has a facial dissatisfaction. What the hell was that? says Kris with anger in her voice. Well, I'm sorry, Todd apologizes, I just thought it would be less suspicious if you and I were there investigating a murder. People may start asking questions.

You're probably right. Just try not to do anything stupid like that again. Understood?

All right, all right. Don't hit me again. By the way, what do you think of Lisa? She seems nice, right?

    That woman frustrates me.

Why? Is it because she didn't let you in?

    "No. It's as if she
