HE SOUND OF STUMBLING woke Zoey from a light sleep. She opened her eyes, wide awake, listening closely for whatever sound might meet her ears. The digital clock next to her bed told her it was 1:45 in the morning.
Someone was in her house. Her heart raced in fear. She clutched at her blanket for a moment before deciding she couldn’t stay in here, hide under the covers and be murdered by some crazy lunatic. She quietly slid from the bed and looked around for some kind of weapon. Her eyes settled on the lamp by her bed. It was fairly tall, made of solid wood and looked like a good option. Can you see him?
Not yet. I’m still in my bedroom.
The police are just around the corner, ma’am. Keep yourself safe and do whatever you have to do if the intruder comes in your room. Lock the door and wait for the officers. They will be there shortly.
Zoey felt a little disappointed that she was told to stay in her room. She wanted to find out who was in her
