    Welcome to Billings, Montana

    Billings, Montana is located in the south-central portion of the state and is the seat of Yellowstone County. Billings was nicknamed the Magic City due to its rapid growth. With one of the largest trade areas in the United States, Billings is the trade and distribution center for much of Montana east of the Continental Divide, Northern Wyoming and the western portions of North Dakota and South Dakota.

    Area attractions include Pompey’s Pillar, Pictograph Cave, Chief Penty Coups Park. Zoo Montana and the Yellowstone Art Museum. You can take a day trip Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Red Lodge Mountain Resort and the Beartooth Highway, which links Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park.

    Billings is in the Yellowstone Valley which is a canyon carved out by the Yellowstone River. Around 80 million years ago, the Billings area was the shore of a sea. The sea deposited sand along its shoreline. Over time, this sand was compressed into stone known as Eagle Stone. Over the last million years, the river carved its way down through this stone to form the canyon walls that are known as the Billings Rimrocks or the
