    Chapter One

    The long cab ride gave Grace plenty of time to rehearse her story and get the facts straight in her mind. Telling little white lies to get what she wanted was almost second nature by now.

    Ever since her parents died in a car accident, she was forced to live with a court-appointed guardian her father's business partner until her 21st birthday. On that anxiously awaited day, she would inherit the money her parents left her and be a free woman. Free to leave Mr. Wright's controlling influence to go and do whatever she pleased.

    Lately, Mr. Wright had been acting strangely dropping little hints and making suggestive comments about her inheritance mentioning more than once how nice it would be to keep the money in the family. It seems Mr. Wright wanted to marry Grace.

    The thought of marrying a potbellied, balding man twice her age petrified Grace. The only thing she could think of to save her from a fate worse than death was to run away. After all, it was only two months until she would come of age and be entitled to the money held in trust.
