Chapter One

Connie promised herself she would be happy once she got that man out of her system. The bum that dumped her and broke her heart would be gone for good. Thank goodness a quiet weekend in the mountains would do just that at least that was the plan!

Sorry, Miss I’m afraid I can't get the blasted things started. Looks like we'll be here a while, hope you're dressed for the cold, said the apologetic voice from under the hood of the car.

A shiver ran up her spine as she sat in the back seat of the cab, not from the bitter cold so much but rather the uncertainty of the long delay. She had prepared well and worn her ski clothes just like most of the other passengers on the train that made its regular run to Lake Placid. Her reversible blue and green snowsuit, sheepskin lined with embroidered Alpine floral motifs cost a small fortune, but boy was it warm. A fur-lined cap pulled tightly over her ears crushing her natural curls completed her outfit.

Connie bit her lower lip trying to hold back her tears. She hoped everything would work out the way she planned now that she was away from the city.

When Hilary invited her out for the weekend, she jumped at the chance to get away and forget all about Tori.

The snow began to fall heavily now. At this rate, the taxi cab would never be able to get through even if the driver could get the old junk heap moving again.
