    Chapter 1 - Stacy

The front door opened and Stacy looked up from her computer with a bright smile. Hello, can I help you? The tall man looked familiar. Stacy glanced over the appointments scheduled and he wasn’t any of them.

Hi. I need help with selling my folks farm. He ran his hands through his hair and stepped up to her desk. I should have called or made an appointment first. He sighed and tilted the pun of the day calendar toward him. He shook his head and smiled.

Stacy glanced at it when he put it back. Yesterday a book fell on my head. I’ve only got my shelf to blame. She grinned at him. It’s not a problem at all. I’m happy to set up an appointment for you now, I can even get some of the basics started for you. Can I get your name?

Garrett Montgomery. Stacy looked up at him. Recognizing him finally, he'd gotten taller and it looked like he worked out more. But he was definitely the same boy she had a crush on in high school. She'd been the girl trying to sneak jokes into every debate speech. He was the guy saying they had to be serious to win.

Hi Garrett. The farm out on 210? He raised his eyebrows at her. She laughed. Not psychic, I went to school with you.

He stared at her intently for a moment before she grinned and gave him the answer. Stacy. We were in debate together.

I should have known. He picked up the calendar with a grin. I'm usually much better with faces. I'm a bit stressed out, not at my best.

Can I ask why you’re selling the farm? Stacy didn’t want to pry but he seemed like he might want to share. She’d had people come in before in bad situations, divorce, death, and job loss, some really wanted someone to talk to. She’d gotten much better at not making jokes to try to cheer people up.

Garrett leaned on the desk. I don’t know if you know, but my dad passed away in high school. Stacy nodded. She shifted things on her desk, subtly moving the kleenex box toward him. Mom’s been living and working on the farm alone since, but she’s having health issues. I just wrapped up a gig and so I’m coming to help her move into a place in town. Not sure yet about renting or buying something in town. So you’re not exactly my first stop, but pretty close. I’m not really sure exactly what to do, and honestly I’m hoping for a little small town hospitality and hopefully not ripping us off. He let out a big sigh.

We are rated the best in town. Stacy smiled brightly.
