    Billionaire Boss - Tiffany Allee

    Chapter Twelve

Sleep evaded her for most of Friday night, and when Saturday rolled around, she found herself antsy, pacing around her apartment, unable to settle down to focus on anything.

She wasn’t sure exactly when it had happened, but she felt transformed. It could have been when Lawrence brought her to a screaming orgasm with his wicked tongue. Or when he spanked her mercilessly. Or, most likely, and the option she didn’t want to think about, when Lawrence came inside of her body.

However it had happened, it was done.

She felt lighter, freer. Yet even more permanently locked into her new life, into her new job. No longer could she think of going back to her old life—or even to a better, new life that didn’t include him.

She was in love with Lawrence.

The knowledge shook her. Her feelings might not have been such a bad thing, if only Lawrence would step into this newfound existence with her. Instead, he held himself back—from her, and she could see now, from everyone else, too. And so she felt utterly alone.

Ridiculous. She had Tara—the best friend she’d ever been graced with. Life wasn’t bad. She had a good job and a roof over her head.

But, glutton for punishment that she was becoming, she wanted more.

    She grabbed her purse.

It was time to figure out exactly how she’d found out about this job, who had told her roommate about it—so she could decide if that information was something she could divulge to Lawrence.

Sunday afternoon shopping hadn’t come fast enough, or, weirdly, slow enough. Faith practically vibrated with the knowledge she’d pried out of her old college roommate with a bottle of wine and a lot of pointed questions the night before.

Tara waved a dress at her, and the bright pink colors flashed across her vision. Hello? she said, stretching her vowels. Are you with me, hon?

I’m with you, she answered automatically. But she wasn’t, really, and she hadn’t been since they’d met up fifteen minutes before. Her mind was too consumed, and for once, it wasn’t the pressure of keeping a secret from Lawrence that weighed on her. Nor was it the new sexual awakening that seemed to have overridden even her basic ability to think clearly. Well, both those things still lingered in the back of her mind, but new information had pushed it all to the back, a low buzz in the base of her skull.

Are you all right? You sure seem a little…distracted.

Weird. She was being weird. Tara was just too polite to say it. Tara?

Tara hung the dress up and turned her full attention to Faith. Something was off with her, too. Was it Faith’s imagination, or was there a slight shadow on her friend’s face that hadn’t been there before?

    Her friend.

Why did you tell people about the job at Lawrence and Associates? The words came out in a rush. She’d wanted to be subtle. To think of a political way to ask. So much for that. Blurting always seemed to be her way.

    Tara paled. Oh.

Yeah. Too late to take the question back now.

    Have you…told anyone?

    No. She hesitated. I just—why?

Tara took a deep breath. Honestly? I wanted them to hire someone inexperienced. Someone who would freak out when things got intense, or who would be…I don’t know, bad at it.

But, how did you know Lawrence would even hire someone off the street like that?

Tara gave her a sad smile. He’s got this…attraction for women who aren’t as experienced in this. I’ve seen the women he’s drawn to. I figured that if I could dangle…well, someone like you, in front of him, he’d take the bait.

And then what? They’d scare the poor thing away and you’d be the only one left in the office? she asked. Tara’s expression fell, and the pieces started to fall together in Faith’s mind. That’s exactly what you were hoping for.

"I just—I needed time. I was still newish to the company—but not new, if you know what I mean. And while I was flattered that Lawrence
