Book Abstract
Hardball has become an immensely popular book in political circles for good reason. Chris Matthews set out to write an honest rulebook on how the game of politics is played and he succeeded with this open, nonpartisan guide. Using examples from dozens of politicians on both sides of the aisle, Matthews lays out the techniques used to get ahead by those who get ahead for a living.
The book became a national bestseller and its success can also be attributed to Matthews’ belief that the rules of politics apply to every human life, not just senators and congressmen. The book focuses on the practical methods used by politicians as opposed to the political philosophies they preached. In other words, Hardball focuses on the how, not the why and it manages to explain these rules with entertaining examples that won’t soon be
