INTRODUCTION TO THE MAGIC
My first visit to the Magic Kingdom was in 1985. I was four years old. There were only two parks open in 1985. My parents had been there once before with my older sisters when it was just the Magic Kingdom and I guess one could say that my genetic code predetermined my predilection towards everything magical and Disney.
It basically started with my Dad who when he was a kid would watch Uncle Walt on TV in the 50's, specifically the Disneyland show and would long be at the most magical place on earth! I am certain my mother felt the same way. There is something about watching Walt talk about his own dreams coming true that made it infectious and fetching in the best possible way! I get it as I watch those old shows now. Walt had this innate affability that people just have or don't have. He was a guy you just wanted to be around. A guy that genuinely cared that you cared and were having a great time. Yes, he built the parks for himself but he also built them for his family and friends. He built the parks to further his unending well of bountiful dreams splashing over the world and making it mostly better than it would be without those dreams.
My parents and grandparents wanted to go to Disney and show us kids how good of a place the world can be. That dreams can come true, that hard work does pay off and that we live in a country that, despite its problems, allows for magic and dream fulfillment. I can truly say that there are many people from all walks of life who I have known that have gone to Disney and loved it. It transcends our personal limitations. It gets to the core of every human. The wonder that each of us has in us even when we grow old, the wonder of our childhood, the joy of living and discovering new things and the world. It is with this in mind, I write this memoir of my experiences thus far in Walt Disney World.
MAGIC KINGDOM-ARRIVAL ON MAIN STREET
So, I will start with my earliest recollection of Main St. USA, in case you didn't know Main Street is the first land you arrive in upon entering the gates in Magic Kingdom Park. I promise to not insult Disney vets by constantly referencing what place or part of the park Main Street lay, I just need to give some context. You enter the gates and then enter a viaduct as it were, underneath the Walt Disney World Railroad, this is where you find that magical plaque that introduces the park,
Here you leave today and enter a World of Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Fantasy.
This sign does not lie.
We entered and walked onto Main Street and of course we must get a picture in front of the castle and I remember my Dad walked into
