About this ebook

I thought my battle was over.

I was wrong. The corrupt government wants their human weapon back - my gift is too valuable to let roam free.

Now that I know the truth about Jameson's betrayal, the resistance needs me more than ever. We've ignited the fires of revolution, but the darkness only grows.

With terrified whispers of an unstoppable new threat, I'm forced to become the leader I never wanted to be. And my heart aches for the life Jameson and I can never have.

If we fail, we burn. And I will let the city burn before I'm enslaved again. My name is Aria Grace, and freedom will be ours, or death.

This is book 4 in the addictive Rebel Minds post apocalyptic romance series. Follow Aria on her quest for justice in a future world filled with mind reading, genetic engineering, and telekinetic powers, combining star-crossed love and thrilling sci-fi action. Blink 4 - C.B. Stone

    Chapter 1

    Reed

I’m still not sure this is a good idea. I can’t seem to think of anything better though. There’s just no getting around the need to talk with my brother. We simply don’t have enough man power on our own to try to take down the Gov. Without help, it’s pure suicide.

Aria jolts in her sleep and sits up, rubbing a hand across her eyes. She yawns, a huge jaw cracker that’s kind of impressive. I stifle a yawn of my own in response. I don’t have time to be tired.

She blinks out into the blazing sunlight, peering at the terrain around us. Where are we?

    Close.

She shoots a nasty look my way and I almost regret my lack of communication. Almost. I smirk.

The road is bumpy and uneven, typical of many roads outside Gov control or ordinance, and my hands ache from gripping the wheel too tight. It’s a pain to keep us on track. Literally.

    What’s that?

My gaze follows her finger to where she’s pointing ahead and off to the right. I strive to keep my expression as impassive as my tone. We’re here.

Aria makes a sound of annoyance before demanding, So what’s the plan, Reed? She turns to face me, scowling. I’ve been pretty accommodating thus far, but you gotta let me in the loop sometime.

I glance her way then return my gaze to the road, ignoring her question. She doesn’t know what she’s asking.

Just stay close to me and don’t say anything, I mutter. I sound like a jerk, I know, but I’m thinking of her safety. If I had my way, I never would have brought her with me in the first place. But I wasn’t in a position to refuse.

She shifts in her seat, turning back to the front with an audible huff. You’re so… she balls up her fists, Ugh, infuriating!

That prompts me to smirk again. I wink in her direction just to fan the flames and get another rise out of her. Relax, Aria. You’ll know more when I know more.

    Chapter 2

    Kai

I grimace. It’s sticky hot out. I shrug my shoulders, my t-shirt clinging to my skin like a wet garbage bag. I shoot a dark glare up at the sky. I hate summer.

Squinting against the brightness of the whitewashed stucco building in front of me, I perk up when I see her. She’s up ahead, walking down Bullard Street just like I predicted she would be. My lips curve in a self-congratulatory smile. Yes. You are good at this skulking stuff, Kai. Timing is everything right now. I need it to be perfect.

Just a few more feet… I plaster my back against the warm concrete of the building and cock my head, listening for her footsteps.

A flash of blonde hair passes me, and I reach out and grab her. A small squeal escapes her lips before I clap a hand over her mouth, tugging her down the alley and out of sight. Once safely out of view, I let her go, stepping back quickly to get out of fist-swinging range.

She spins around, outraged. "Hey! Wha—Kai?"

Her eyes go round with shock. She’s surprised. I don’t blame her.

Hey, Drew. I offer a sheepish salute, lifting my brows and baring my teeth in a wary smile.

Oh boy, she’s mad. It radiates off her in waves and I have to suddenly fight that sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach again. So weird! I cringe, lifting my hands in a consoling gesture. Hey listen, Drew. Before you go trying to mind-castrate me or worse, please, will you just hear me out? I’ve got something important I need to tell you.

She opens her mouth then closes it, her ice blue eyes flashing. She’s breathing hard from struggling and the spurt of adrenaline, but she looks level-headed, as always. She tosses her long, silky pony tail over her shoulder and nails me with a fiery glare.

Spit it out, Matheson. And make it quick.

Crap. I’ve thought over and over on what I’m about to tell her but now that the moment is here, I’m not sure how to start. Where to start.

Well? She glances down at her wristwatch, then glares at me again.

An idea blooms. Yes! Read my thoughts, I blurt.

Lines wrinkle her face as she frowns, her expression perplexed. Wait, what?

Do it. My tone is urgent, and I ready the mental images like they’re slides for a presentation. Ugly, horrifying slides, but it is what it is. This is the only way I can think of to communicate what I need her to know. It’s the only way that will convince her it’s truth.

She sighs with irritation. "Kai, what are you talking about? Why would
