About this ebook

As the fires of rebellion spread, one thing is clear - war has come to our city.

And I find myself at the center of the storm.

The government wants their human weapon back. And they'll raze the city to ashes to capture me. With my rebel friends at my side, we've given the people something to believe in. But the darkness only grows.

I know what I have to do. Even if it means leaving behind everything I've grown to love, including Jameson. Torn between opposing sides, he's become my enemy...I think. With our forbidden romance clouding my judgment, I no longer know the truth from the lies. But of one thing I am certain - this ends now.

Get ready for the explosive finale that will leave the city forever changed. They created a weapon. Her name is Aria Grace.

This is book 3 in the addictive Rebel Minds post apocalyptic romance series. Follow Aria on her quest for justice in a future world filled with mind reading, genetic engineering, and telekinetic powers, combining star-crossed love and thrilling sci-fi action. All books should be read in order. Some installments end on cliffhangers and continue story arcs. Also available as two sets, books 1-3 and books 4-6.

    Blink 3 - C.B. Stone

    Chapter 1

    Kai

"Are you saying you don’t know what happened?"

I cringe. I hate the tone Drew is taking with me. It makes me feel stupid, like some inept child that broke a prized vase. I inhale a breath of the purified air and try a different approach.

"I’m saying I’ve told you everything I remember up until I got knocked out." I prudently leave off the snarky comment I want to quip about not being held responsible for events that occur while unconscious. I don’t even know what the heck is going on or why she is so irate, but it’s clear something’s got her knickers in a twist. I bet her head isn’t pounding as hard as mine though. I wince, rubbing the sore spot. A little sympathy wouldn’t be remiss. Alas, sympathy doesn’t appear to be on the agenda.

You’ve got to have more clues than that. What you told me can’t be everything. You just have to give yourself some recovery time, and then more will come to you, I’m sure. Drew paces in front of me, the cold lights casting shadows on the angular planes of her face. Her blonde hair is pulled back into a high pony tail, exposing her long, slender neck. If she wasn’t so direct and business-like all the time you might see more of her beauty. Not that I’m looking.

An image of the frail looking girl in the isolation room comes to mind and I quickly shove it aside. Drew spins on her heel and narrows her eyes at me.

    What was that?

I swallow. Yikes. I keep forgetting my training and letting my guard down. Dangerous territory to drop ones guard in Gov headquarters. Especially when my thoughts concern one very alluring escapee who bears a striking resemblance to Aria Grace, the suspect wanted for murder. An escapee who I would bet the farm is not the real Aria Grace at all. I’m still not sure how I know such a thing, but strangely, I do. What?

She steps closer, her eyes narrowing even more. I think you know more than you’re telling me.

I scramble for an excuse. I have no idea how she caught my mental slip, but she has. Obviously she outranks me in the talent and skills department. Mentals always outrank me and my lowly cyber genius skills. I just… I wondered if this had something to do with that woman that was brought in. My response is totally lame. I cringe inside.

"It has everything to do with her. Drew’s gaze skewers me like chunks of meat on a kabob. She’s gone. They took her."

I blink several times. Gone. Wait, what? So that’s what’s got Drew all worked up. Suddenly my conk on the head by an unknown assailant makes perfect sense. Who took her?

She shrugs, her expression giving nothing away. Jameson and some girl.

I stiffen. If Drew wasn’t standing in front of me right now, I’d smack myself upside the forehead and give myself another bruise. Geez. I am a world class idiot.

What? Drew leans in with her intense stare again. I meet her gaze as comprehension slowly dawns.

    It was her.

What are you talking about? Lines form on Drew’s forehead. She crosses her arms, tapping a foot with impatience.

My words tumble over each other as I rush to fill her in. "It was Aria Grace. The real Aria Grace! I didn’t see it before because she had cut and dyed her hair. Her and Jameson, they were together."

Drew steps back, her expression registering surprise and something else. Suspicion possibly, based on her next question. How do you know the woman we had in custody wasn’t Aria? I only just found that out myself not too long ago. Apparently our guys that brought her in mistook her because of the coat she was wearing. It had Aria’s pay card in the pocket, plus she fit the description.

Well, that’s not really surprising I guess. From the one photo I saw, the woman they brought in could be Aria’s sister, the two women look so alike. My mind flashes back to the nerdy looking chick with Jameson earlier. Well, except the real Aria is now a cropped, bleached blonde. I frown, not sure how to answer Drew’s question. I opt for the truth. Honestly, I have no idea. It was pretty weird. I saw her when she was first brought into the building, and… I just knew. I can’t explain it.

Drew’s back is stiff and ramrod straight as she processes my response. Eventually she nods, though her eyes remain shadowed with suspicion. Then her brows collide in a dark frown.

"Wait a minute. So you mean to tell me, Aria, the real Aria, was inside this building? She was the woman with Jameson?"

Drew’s expression turns thunderous. Waves of anger radiate off of her. They hit me both physically and mentally. My stomach lurches and saliva builds in my mouth, like I’m about to get sick. Wrapping a hand around my middle, I lean forward, my eyes watering.
