    Okay. This book.

Having loved the Serena Jones Mystery series by this same author, I was excited to start this one. I mean, a paramedic and a deputy? Sounds like something I would love!

Unfortunately, it didn't completely cut it for me. The mystery was interesting, and kept me reading, but the final outcome was very unexpected, and didn't make as much sense as other possibilities. The romance felt rather sudden (although that was rather excusably, since the characters did have a background together) and focused way more on the physical aspect of things as opposed to the heart. (which always drives me nuts).

The book started out with a lot more emphasis on faith and Christianity than Orchard's other books have, which made me very excited, since that's something I've missed in the other ones. But that pretty much completely petered out. I kept waiting for the big emotional and spiritual climax and it . . . just never happened. Talk about a let down.

Overall, it wasn't a terrible book or anything, it just left me with a very "meh" feeling, which is almost more disappointing than leaving me with a bad feeling.
