    Introduction

Manga are Japanese comics that have gained popularity all over the world. Fans of Manga include not only children, but also adults. There are various characters in these comics like Kodomo, Shonen and Shoujo.Shoujo is a lady between the ages of 9 and 18. If you are interested in learning how to sketch attractive and beautiful Shoujo Manga, then this is the best time to get this skill. This guide teaches its readers’ step-by-step techniques to draw Shoujo Manga.

Before you start to draw Shoujo Manga figures, you should know some of the basic drawing terminologies used in this book, and tips and guidelines that would make drawing a fun task. Absorb them thoroughly and enhance your drawing skills.

    Basic Terminologies

Hairline is the front edge of a person’s hair. See the hairline of Shoujo in the figure given below. And remember that Shoujo’s hair is always dense, above the hairline; therefore, do not leave spaces while drawing in each strand of hair.

Iris is the colored part of an eye that surrounds the pupil (a small, round, black area in the middle of the eye). Shoujo’s eyes are always shiny, sparkling and glittering; especially the irises. Eyelashes are the hairs which are drawn on the edges of upper and lower eyelids of the eyes. Eyebrow is a line of hairs which is drawn above Shoujo’s eye.

Consider the following figures and become familiar with some common basic geometric points:

    Tips and Guidelines

We’ll learn a lesson, e.g. Head and Face Basics, step-by-step in detail; therefore, it will not need to be repeated again, as basic points in forthcoming lessons. There always will be a figure, beside step-by-step instructions, which represents what is being drawn, followed by the guidelines given. Always track the pictures and take guidance from them. Unless, and until, prescribed otherwise, we shall be sketching by using a standard pencil. Always start sketching with light lines, so that they will be easier to erase, in case of mistakes. There is not any hard and fast rule as to drawing Shoujo Manga. Be flexible at all times and draw in a way which looks appealing. Really, drawing needs creativity, and this can be achieved by regular practice and increased curiosity. So be flexible at all times and enjoy.

Find a quiet place with fresh air and natural light. There, sit down and relax yourself. Sit in a comfortable posture and place a small table in front of you. If you are sitting on a chair beside a large table, then it’s okay. Take out your drawing box and a white paper sheet and place them on the table. Open your drawing box; take out an eraser, a pencil sharpener and a pencil with sharp lead. Hold the pencil gently in your hand. And let’s start!
