PART 1Making the Doll
In this issue we share the instructions to make the doll's body and create her facial features and her hair.
In the next issue we will share the instructions to make her beautiful kimono, underskirt, obi and obiage.
MATERIALS
• Four A4 sheets of white wool-blend felt
• 60cm ( 3/4yd) pink floral print satin fabric (kimono)
• 40cm ( 1/2yd) solid white satin fabric (kimono lining)
• 10cm ( 1/8yd) pink tone-on-tone cotton print fabric (undercollar)
• 20cm ( 1/4yd) thin white cotton fabric (undercollar bodice)
• 30cm ( 3/8yd) dark pink print cotton fabric (underskirt)
• 20cm ( 1/4yd) blue tone-on-tone print satin fabric (obi)
• 10cm ( 1/8yd) buckram or heavyweight interfacing (obi)
• DMC stranded embroidery floss in Blanc (White), Light Pewter (169), Black (310) and Red (321)
• 220m (230yd) worsted-weight black yarn
• 60cm ( 3/4yd) pink ribbon, 15mm ( 5/8in) wide (obiage)
• 1.1m (1 1/4yd) red cord, diameter 3mm ( 1/8in) (obijime)
• Dissolvable interfacing; Anne used Sulky Stick ’n Stitch
• Prismacolor coloured pencil in Cherry Red (19)
• Fray Check
• Air-soluble/disappearing fabric-marking pen
• Button thread in black
• Fibre fill
• Stiff paper or card stock
• Lightweight cardboard (such as a cereal box)
• Thin tissue paper
• White glue
• Three or four small pink paper or silk flowers – often used for scrapbooking
• Haemostats/surgical forceps
• Size 26 chenille needle
• Long soft-sculpture doll needle
• Hot glue gun
