This book was not edited. There are so many typos it makes it almost unbearable to read. Then to top it off, the story has no real plot

A CUP OF JOSHUA

Another letter from Sallie Mae.

Naomi Monroe, you are now three months past due on your student loan payments. Please pay the sum below to prevent further legal action.

Naomi’s eyes moved down the page and stopped at the numbers that were printed in bold text. There were too many zeros at the end of that number. It didn’t make sense. Maybe it was a mistake. A computer error.

A sick feeling grew in the pit of Naomi’s stomach. Just what was she supposed to do? Sell a kidney?

She looked at the letter again, and then at the time. 5:33 AM. The bus would come in two minutes. Then an hour and a half long ride to work. Naomi didn’t have time to worry about Sallie Mae.

She grabbed her keys, her phone, and her bag before heading for the door. Just at that second, the lights went out.

That’s right. The electricity. How long had it been since that was paid? Too long.

Whatever, Naomi grumbled and slammed the door behind her.

The bus was late, as usual, which meant that Naomi missed her connection, which meant that when she stumbled into the café at 7:45 AM, her boss was there with a scowl on her face.

Ms. Knightly was a short, older woman with a mean face. They say that you earn the face that you get after you are 40 years old. Well, if that was the case, then she had definitely earned a face full of anger.

"Late again, Ms. Monroe?"

Her voice was thin and high pitched, like screeching in Naomi ’s ear.

Ms. Knightly pulled out her phone and looked at the time, then she glowered at Naomi.

"I’m at the end of my patience. We are opening in 15 minutes, fifteen! Does that sound like enough time to have this place spotless and ready to open?" She asked.

No, but it’s not my fault, the –

"It’s never your fault, is it? Ms. Knightly spat out. Look, just get back there and help Gabby. We’ll see how long you last if you keep this up."

Sorry, Ms. Knightly, I won’t be late again. I promise, Naomi said.

Ms. Knightley only grunted and motioned towards the back of the café.

It took another five minutes for Naomi to put away her bag, tie the strings of her apron uniform behind her back, and pin on her name tag.

She really chewed you out, didn’t she? Gabby asked.

The freckled redhead chewed on a pink piece of gum. Its fruity flavor filled the air as she smacked it around in her mouth. Gabby held out a piece for Naomi to try, but she just shook her head.

"I can’t stand her, but I need this job, Naomi said as she wiped down a counter until it was gleaming in the light. Shit, just this morning my lights went off. What the hell am I supposed to do?"

Gabby picked up a large bag of coffee beans. The print outside was littered with little logos. Fair trade. Organic. Single estate. Freshly roasted.

She opened the bag with a sharp knife and the little brown beans tumbled into the mouth of the grinder.

I don’t know, why don’t you try to model on the side? You’re pretty enough, Gabby said.

Naomi laughed.

Yeah, right. Next you’ll be telling me to ask my fairy godmother for some cash. Maybe she’ll give me a no interest loan.

"What, you could, Gabby said. Girls with dark skin are popular these days. And ever since the Kardashian’s got popular, everybody wants to be curvy."

Naomi stopped wiping the counters for a second and just stared at Gabby.

I don’t know you've been talking to, she said, "but I
