Writing is my hobby. It is the thing I do with all the ideas in my head. I work full-time and fit it in around work, mostly. I am currently writing the 5th book in the Jensen Family Series, Rising Son. It's a hard book to write and touches on many personal experiences. I don't have a release date as yet but I will keep you all updated. I can now digitally autograph books on request: http://www.authorgraph.com/widgets/author/tftisme

This book is a work of fiction. The characters, events and places portrayed in this book are products of the author’s imagination and are either fictitious or are used fictitiously. Any similarity to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intentional.

In layman’s terms, if you think you see yourself in this book, you don’t.

    Prologue

Watching my Alpha raise his baby son into the air and introduce him to the pack gives me a real Pride Rock moment.

    Wait…What am I thinking?

It takes a moment for me to realise that the thoughts weren't mine. Cain is grinning stupidly when I look at him. I shake my head, biting back a laugh.

I look out to the pack as my Alpha and his mate turn to go back to the house. My pack. My family. My home. I feel more settled now than I have in an eternity and my sense of pride at the leader Cain has become is threatening to overwhelm me.

I follow him now, back to the house and watch him cradling his son. The boy, Caleb stares up at his sire. There's already an intensity to his stare and even though he is only hours old, intelligence shines in his eyes. Exactly what I saw in Cain when he was born.

Cain has moved away from the hustle and bustle of the main living area as is his way. He doesn't like the constant noise. He looks up from admiring his son and pins me with that stare of his. I feel him open the bond between us, he's getting good at controlling it these days.

Will you help me raise him, teach him the way you taught me? He asks.

I nod. Flattered that he would ask me.  It would be an honour and my absolute pleasure.

Cain laughs You liar, he's my son and just because of that fact we both know there will be many unpleasurable moments.

    He does have a point.

The future is looking bright for the Tate Pack and I am proud to be part of it. My journey here wasn’t an easy one but my story needs to be told. I will try to keep the tales of the past to a minimum. I prefer to focus on the present and my future with this pack.

    Chapter 1

Trying to balance the books for the packs finances is mind numbing. Sitting at the large table in the pack house, you’d think I’d be distracted by the constant noise and bustle around me, but I actually find it comforting. The snippets of conversations I catch can be quite entertaining and of course there’s the steady supply of food.

I can block out most of the distractions, particularly if the books aren’t balancing, its Cain’s pacing that is driving me mad. I watch my alpha. He is restless. He’s been cooped up for far too long. The last time he felt this way, he took himself off around the world, becoming am international diving sensation. Of course his sabbatical from pack life lead him to his mate, so it was worth it. But we need him here now. We need to keep him focused.

I had a mate once, I remind myself as I sit back in my chair. It was a long time ago now, but I still mourn her loss. I had an impossible choice to make back then. Save my alpha or save my mate. I chose my mate and I would do it again, but it was all for nought , they both died. She was ripped from my shattered arms and slaughtered in front of me. The only reason I survived was because, like a coward, I played dead.

Giving myself a mental shake, face it, I can’t give myself a physical one, the pack would notice, I lean back over the books, resting my chin in my hand as I once again go over the figures. I move my elbow slightly and for the second time today, knock an entire stack of papers to the floor. I curse under my breath as I scrape my chair back to start picking it all up.

Our former alpha, Cain’s father, comes quickly to my aid, scooping up files and helping me get things back in order. You need an office, he says quietly, but Cain still overhears.

We can do that, he bounces forward. Build an office. Yeah, let’s do that. It’ll be good.

Wow. Talk about eager. Cain loves physical work, particularly the kind where he doesn’t have to think and can just use brute force. Right now, even though he’s vibrating at the idea of getting his hands on some timber, he’s torn.

Every time he talks about going back to work, he looks over at Lily. He needs some freedom but he doesn’t want to leave his mate or his son. It would just take a nod from her that she’s ok with it and he’d be shifting and out of the door quicker than you could blink but Lily is too tied up in her baby to notice Cain’s anxiety.

I’d go and talk to her…actually, scratch that, I wouldn’t physically go anywhere near her, especially when she’s holding the baby. She’s in over protective mother, kill mode and I quite like my body in one piece. It’s a handy bit of equipment while I’m living and breathing. Open the bond you say? Do you think I haven’t tried? I am the master at controlling the bond and it would seem Lily is the mistress. She’s blocked everyone out. Even Cain, which only adds to his stress and subsequently, mine.

She’s snarling now as Cain has wondered away from my side to attempt doting on his child. I can’t say I blame her, he’s developed this peculiar habit of licking the baby, it’s a little gross. But as it’s my duty, no, my sworn duty to protect my alpha, I rise from collecting papers and back him up.

There’s a momentary lull in the noise levels in the house and I grasp the opportunity to divert him.

Cain? Why don’t you head out to the lumber yard and see if they need a hand? I stop as abruptly as he does, nearly crashing in to his back, this close to Lily and Caleb that would be a big mistake.

Cain bristles. Technically I’ve told him to do something and although he’s generally a genial type of fellow, his alpha genes have ramped up a notch since the birth of his son and he’s not even taking suggestions well these days.

What are you doing? He asks via the bond.

Trust me oh great and mighty alpha, I’m trying to get you some head space without getting us both mauled.

He snorts. I did notice you were standing behind me, not in front.

Hey, she’s your mate. I may be your protector but I don’t have a death wish.

    Yeah alright. Good point.

Lily is watching us with narrowed eyes. She knows we are communicating but still won’t open the bond. She looks at me as I hover behind my alpha and despite myself, I take a step back.

Coward. Cain laughs in my head.

It’ll do you good to get out of the house. You should go for a run. She agrees, smiling at her mate. But her smile quickly turns to a growl as he steps closer.

He hesitates and then despite her snarl, dives in for a quick kiss and a stroke of Caleb’s head before he’s off out of the door, shifting as he goes.

See? Told you. Do I know my alpha or what? I bend to pick up his discarded clothing and find myself surrounded by a scent that is beginning to break down my defences.

China sweeps Cain’s clothes into her arms and stands staring at me. I take a deep breath, imprinting her scent on my brain and also testing to see if Declan has been anywhere near her lately. His scent is there but it is very slight. They haven’t been intimate from what I can tell. Either that or my head is so swamped with the smell of her that I’m deluded.

The stars have played a cruel trick on me. The wolf who has sworn to be without a mate since the death of my first one is now destined to be with this delightful specimen of wolfhood. Wolfhood? Now I’m making up words? I should leave before I do something stupid.

Too late I realise that I’ve relieved her of the clothes and placed them on the table and taken her in my arms. I bend her backwards and press my lips to hers. Everything outside of the feel of her mouth and probing tongue has ceased to exist as I quite literally devour her kiss .

I’m panting as I pull away, but she’s grinning. She knows I’m not going to be able to hold out much longer before I claim her. Shit. The populace of the pack house is staring at me. I’m not known for outward displays of affection. They looked shocked. Many mouths are hanging open. Yes, I need to get out of here.

    I don’t want a mate I remind myself. I couldn’t protect the one I had,
