About this ebook

Marion is a bored and lonely housewife who lives in the early sixties. Her husband is the local pastor;and as such, both husband
and wife must uphold a dedicated and strict religious lifestyle.
Howard provides well for them both; but the one thing he has been unable to give his wife for a long time now is the
feeling that she is special and loved.
Disenchanted with her marriage, and with her one daughter grown and married herself, Marion has plenty of time to
spend alone as her husband travels to preach to different congregations.

One day, she catches a glimpse of her pretty new neighbour, who has just moved in next door.
Cindy is single, vivacious, and in short, everything Marion longs to be.She introduces Marion to a "little something" to take the
edge off.
At first, Marion steadfastly refuses, but after much teasing and coaxing, agrees to experiment herself; just this "one time".After all, Cindy has
helped with the painful loneliness she has so often felt, and a close relationship between the two women is blossoming.

But events quickly spiral out of control, taking Marion to a place she never dreamed she would be...

This story is a work of fiction.

    Any resemblance to persons living

    or dead is merely coincidental.

The wind whipped her hair, sending tight curls streaked with just a little grey into her face. Impatiently,Marion pushed back the unruly locks, shaking out the sheets taut before putting them on the clothes line to dry.

The day promised to be a fine one, with a few tufts of white clouds scattered in the blue sky. The town of Elmwood was just beginning to wake up,a rural area set some miles from the bustling city of Waterdon.

The residents of Elmwood boasted they had the best of both worlds;the quiet solitude of a small dwelling to live and raise children, whilst their close neighboring city provided the means to earn the livelihoods for their families.

Married to Howard for over twenty years,Marion reflected that the street they lived on really hadn't changed much.People enjoyed the close proximity of knowing their neighbors, and many still didn't bother to lock their doors;for this was a safe place to live.

Though it was already June 4,1963,and certainly Howard always felt big changes were coming, and not all of them good.Marion knew a minister's wife in Waterdon, and they never went away from their home without first locking the door. There were ruffian gangs,Howard had told her.

Never had she longed to visit other places much, seemingly content to stay at home whilst her husband conducted his ministry, often times many miles away.Marion was in fact resigned to this way of life,so whilst it was dull and without adventure,it also was secure.Oftentimes of late, her thoughts would carefully pull away from thinking about her lonely marriage.

The streets were well layed out, pleasantly decorated with huge fountains here and there, and masses of perennial flowers hanging in planters along the sidewalks. Scattered with the elm trees that had first inspired the town's namesake, the effect was appealing, giving one the feeling of wanting to stroll in a leisure fashion along the quiet streets. Houses were neat and well cared for,and parks were plentiful; providing young mothers a place to meet and chat;whilst their children played.

All in all it was a pretty little place, and Marion never grew tired of sitting on her favorite rocker on her large front veranda. People she had known for many years often stopped to chat. Indeed, it was a favorite way to pass the time, and catch up with all the local gossip.

Howard, her husband, was an important pastor in these parts;often traveling to preach the gospel to nearby cities, and sometimes even the more distance places. During his frequent absences Marion kept herself busy, looking after the household, and taking part in various worthwhile causes.

Theirs was a very dedicated and strict lifestyle;for Howard's reputation as a formidable man of the cloth preceded him,and his wife enjoyed the prestige and privilege which marriage to him entailed.

Respected herself for her views and opinions, she enjoyed talking with the townsfolk on a wide variety of topics, often finding herself also in the role of counselor.

Marion could be depended on to give sound, sensible advice, the villagers confided to one another. She was treated with deference whenever she shopped in the local stores, and this gave her fragile ego a feeling of superiority. Marion was also at heart a meek and timid
