#1 New York Times Bestseller • More than 10 million Copies Sold
In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.
For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.
Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.
There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.
Editor's Note
Unconventional, pragmatic advice…
Flies in the face of so much conventional self-help wisdom that it’s hard not to label the book as anti-self-help. Yet, that label undermines how pragmatic the book actually is. In the overcrowded and over-clichéd self-help genre, this is a book well worth whatever f*cks you can muster.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Superb and honest literature a must read for everybody with mind
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oddly written and enticing. He provides a great formulation of ideas. The ideas presented are nothing groundbreaking, but simply grounded. These are things that everyone knows to be true internally, but might deny because of there entitlement. He does an excellent job formulating and laying out these ideas. I’ll most definitely be rereading to help reinforce this.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great read. Down to earth, yet ringing surprisingly deep into what matters most.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book changed my mindset about life and people. It changed my views and perception in decision making situation and what fuck to consider important to give and what not to give. This changed the whole game of life. So thank you, that's all I can say.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's really an elaborated explanation on how to live a good life, at least mentally. In an age of chaotic, materialistically bombed, rat race that has never been this hectic, fame driven society, rats being glorified and all.
This book taught me to really careful to who, what and when should I give my fucks to. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this book! Manson is a true 21st Century thinker.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is changing my perspective, especially when I’m facing my downs in life

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honestly, I love this book.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck touches on a lot of thought-provoking themes about life and is represented in a way that is honest, counterintuitive, and efficient - simply put, in a way that doesn't give a f*ck. It is sectioned into well-thought-out chapters and sub-chapters. What I like the most about it is how it's focused on the backwards law. In addition, it reminds us that everything in a nutshell is living a life without fearing death, because we don't have to fear anything that's stopping us from living.
This book touches on so many things from love, loss, and looking for answers. Moreover, it feels like a constant stream of consciousness and thoughts about growing and decaying. Overall, I am grateful to have read this book because it has helped me acknowledge the metric, the value, and the pain that I want to pursue and adopt in my everyday life. The book is well-executed and I highly recommend it. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a really easy book to read. It comes with great reasoning, with great metaphors and with amazing examples. Mark Manson has a style of his own when writing his books, meaning that he always tries to test his hypotheses by exemplifying with hypothetical case A, hypothetical case B, hypothetical case C, etc.
It's a great lecture when feeling demotivated and clueless about your direction in life, or when you're simply in an equipoise moment in life and need to make a long term decision. It combines some nice methaphors, such as onion layers of self awareness and honest panda, with real case studies and also some very nice writing in the final chapter.
I definetely recommend this book for an average reader, but do not expect too much scientific data out of it. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5this is an interesting book. it would be a great addition to a library
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have readed this book in portuguese (thanks to Note Group in Portugal) and lets say that i cant agree more. We traditionally give a f(k) to things that dont let us live and seize the day and even not havent readed it all its a book i surely recommend

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed reading this book. It is my first foray into self improvement. It is usually difficult for a book in this field to keep me interested and hold my attention however the author used clever analogies and useful anecdotes to implement ideas and feed the brain.
