Angelo, the piglet, was just a few days old when he was separated from his mother and taken to a shelter in the city. He was alone and despite the fact that the humans treated him well enough, the ever-present smell of disinfectant, and the continual barking of the dogs in that place frightened him. The cold concrete floor seemed strange to him, and our young piglet could only imagine what it must be like to walk on green grass or feel the sun on his face. He only knew that no one was meant to live like this.

Angelo was in the shelter a few weeks and gradually adjusting to the routine, when one morning a stranger appeared outside his cage. The little piglet was instantly curious about the visitor. He was odd, most of his face hidden beneath a bushy white beard; he did not smell like the others. His scent was of morning air, sunshine, and something else, the old man smelled of abiding love! He… he smelled like his mother! The little piglet could not understand it all, but that smell wrapped around him like a warm cocoon. He watched as the conversation between the humans continued, when his door opened. The stranger reached in and lifted Angelo from his cage.
