MOONLIGHTING
Chapter 1
Rory Dunbrook climbed down from her John Deere tractor and wiped her forehead. In the heat of a hot June afternoon, she gazed across the field she’d just plowed and sighed. Usually, her brother did this and took care of the summer harvesting but since his unit’s deployment to Afghanistan, she’d been working his job during the day and her job keeping the accounts at night.
Twelve months ago at this time, she’d been getting ready to go in to town and dance the night away at the local bar she and her girlfriends frequented. Now, all she wanted to do involved dancing under the soothing water of a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. The books though could not wait and needed to be done before anything else. She’d promised Blake she’d keep the farm up and running while he served overseas and she intended to keep that vow.
Miss Dunbrook, is there anything else before I let the men go for the day?
her foreman asked.
No, go on and have a good evening,
she said.
Have you gotten anyone for the summer yet?
Shit!
she cursed. I forgot about that.
Not meaning to be telling you what to do but you’d better get the ads out quick before the college kids get their summer jobs or go home. At least, I believe that is where your brother went.
Thanks,
she said. He did the hiring and such while I signed the checks. I’ll get on it tomorrow morning, I swear and thanks for reminding me.
Sounds good,
he said before he excused himself and walked away.
How could I have forgotten the summer help?
She turned to walk back to the Ford pickup she’d driven down to the lower fields earlier in the day then drove back to the house, parked and walked up to the porch. Slumping in one of the porch chairs, she closed her eyes for a few minutes trying to relax and maybe think of some ideas for the ads she’d have to put out. At least, I’ve got a computer…
When she finally opened her eyes, the sun had set and a few hours had passed. Cursing to herself, she went inside and locked up before running upstairs to take a hot shower. When she stepped out of the soothing heat and toweled dry, she felt better. Walking across her bedroom, she stood at her desk enjoying the warm breeze blowing over her naked body.
Since her brother had left and she had the house to herself, she hadn’t thought too much about dressing up. Hell, it’s only me… Tying her lush mane of blonde hair into a ponytail, she leaned over her desk and began working on her laptop. First, she took care of the daily figures and then printed out the weekly reports. Next, she started trying to compose an advertisement for the local paper and the college news as well as the community channel and a poster.
She figured if she could hang posters around the University of Minnesota Morris Campus, she might get lucky. Having gone there to get a business degree, she knew many of the students hung around for summer session and took part-time jobs at several of the surrounding businesses and farms. Hopefully…

Patrick Miller and Danny Eastman worked as interns at the college but with the end of the spring semester, they both needed to find something to carry them over until the fall semester began in late August. Both over six foot tall, neither shied away from physical labor and the idea of working on one of the local farms seemed more appealing than some of the other positions they’d seen advertised.
What do you think?
This can’t be everything? There have got to be more places needing help than the ads we’ve seen so far.
Time’s running out,
Patrick said. I did some checking and the other postings have been filled. Maybe with the economy…
You know as well as I do that summer corn will need harvesting while the next crop is planted. There’s got to be something out there.
They walked across campus on a Saturday morning hoping against hope that something may have gone up since they checked the day before. As they approached the kiosk in the courtyard near the administration building, they saw something that stopped them both in their tracks.
As they watched, a short blonde-haired woman with an amazing body stood hanging a poster on one side of the campus announcement kiosk.
Amazing, isn’t she?
Great ass,
Danny said.
Shall we?
I believe it’s been said that no opportunity should be ignored.
Who said that?
Me,
Danny said before they both laughed.
Walking over to where she stood, they looked over her shoulder and saw a posting for help on one of the local farms.
"Excuse us, but
