About this ebook
At what age do we stop believing in monsters?
Anthony Mannis is one of a handful of "invokers" - lucky children that can turn their imagination into a living reality; their abilities "arcing down" as they become young adults. When his hometown is raided by the police state and his family abducted, he strikes off on an adventure involving dueling monsters, fanatic policemen, a pyromaniac jester, and loyal friends.
If you're the kind of person who, when the world says, "Grow up," you say, "No way," then this book is for you - laugh in the face of danger with our irrepressible, rowdy, and ultimately rebellious teenage heroes.
“THE WILD BEASTS OF ANTHONY MANNIS by Matthew Young is a great story for those who enjoy fantasy and science fiction. Both younger readers and adults alike can find much to love about this story. The characters are alive, relatable, and heroic...The author creates a frightening world, but the overarching message is that we can do anything if we try, especially when the cause is noble and right. I think this would be a good book for adults and younger readers to share together, and to talk to each other about. Nice work...Matthew Young is a talented author and I hope he will continue to write many books for years to come!”

7-31-19Often I wonder why I took the time to write. I felt compelled to put down the ideas in my head but until recently I didn't know why, when I read this twitter thread by @kat_kuhl: https://twitter.com/kat_kuhl_/status/1156246912879738882paraphrased here:"...I adore mythologies. All of this stuff that I get sullen over is owned by [corporations] BECAUSE people love it and tell stories about it and want to hear more (making them valuable $$ assets) so there's the potential for us to do the good work of storytelling through them...It's hard for me to love star wars fully, because star wars is a corporate entity that spews propoganda, often carelessly. It's one of our mythologies with potential, but i don't think it's in the hands of people who care about us learning to do anything other than obey and buy...This is how I feel about superhero stuff, disney period, any form of storytelling you'd think of as culturally important that is now owned by a corporation instead of the people. I can't love a corporate agent."I agree. It's as important to write and tell your own stories as much as free speech is a right. I love Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, etc. But how long did I have to wait, do I have to wait, for them to tell the stories I want to here with the characters I love? So I did it myself. Here you will find a story, and soon many more, of three children set out on adventure. They're the characters I wanted to see when I was young, tackling problems that I had, enjoying things that I did. They inhabit the sci-fi world I grew up watching, with the fantasy powers I read about."Tackling problems that I had"Some themes that you see in hard sci-fi but not often YA: the complex dynamics of race, colonization, resettlement, and migration can be found here, affecting our three heroes in ways they don't entirely understand, and don't entirely confront. I dealt with these, and I wanted to see how they would. You know what's great about sci-fi? You can write about the world and how to make it better. There's no limits.- Matt
