Alpaca shifter Alfie dreams of a life beyond the petting zoo at stately Mattock Hall. He can’t explore his crush on Simon Mattock, heir to the estate and caretaker to the animals, for two reasons. What a super cute story! Alpacas are such cuddly little critters, so to find out more about an alpaca shifter was bound to be fun. To also have a shifter who has never taken his human form before is an unusual situation, and together with the suspense around Simon and his horrible boyfriend, the result is a very entertaining story with a lot of heart.

Alfie lives in a petting zoo and is pretty happy with his life as an alpaca. His mother always warned him to be careful about taking human form, and I think Alfie has taken that to heart just a little too much. Alfie does dream about Simon, the human heir to the estate that is Alfie’s home, in a decidedly un-alpaca-like fashion, but doesn’t expect anything ever to come of it. When Simon’s life is threatened though, Alfie doesn’t hesitate to do what is needed – with beautiful results for both him and Simon.

If you like alpacas, if you’re curious about the reasons for a shifter to become human for the first time, and if you’re looking for a read that is as sweet as it is entertaining, then you will probably like this short story.
