AT A BAR WITH A FRIEND

Around 10pm, drinks and more...

I guess we had this coming. 10 years me and Steve have been good friends and never once have we ever thought for a moment of hooking up, but with him a little tipsy and me well over the limit on this long stretch of party strip that we are stumbling down, his firm arm under mine and his warm, slightly taller body pressed closely to my side, I feel like this is something that should have happened a long time ago.

It all started in the first bar. Steve confided to me that he hadn't had any action for quite some time and I confided in him that my situation was the same. Six months or more of not being with another person can really do a head job on a guy's mind. From there we started talking about why exactly we never got together and, although many good reasons were given, not least of which the potential for the disastrous breakup of our friendship, none of them seemed to really mean anything in the heat of the moment. It was then that our eyes locked and there was this sudden shared understanding that right here, right now there are no excuses.

He drags me into a yellow taxi cab and gives directions to his place to the driver. I am not touching him and he isn't touching me, but I feel like we are connected in a very physical way.

The city we live in is vibrant and full of life. It is a Saturday night around 10pm and there are a lot of gay men like ourselves hanging out on the street corners of the local gay party district. We flash by scenes of couples kissing and men pressing other men to walls in the heat of unleashed passion. My mind slowly turns to what were about to do... and then I say it.
