About this ebook

The Mom Rut: How To Break Out Of Your Mom Rut

This book is written and dedicated to both working and stay at home moms, whose lives have reached a plateau because of the monotony of their daily routine.

If you're a mom, you know what I mean. You get up, make breakfast, lunches, drive the kids to school, shop, cook, clean, pick up the kids, take them to dance lessons, piano lessons, soccer practice and countless other daily, but necessary chores. Whew! At the end of the day you make dinner for the family. If you have time you may actually get to spend a few quality moments with your kids (or husband) before getting them off to bed. The next day you look forward to the same routine, and the day after that. You life, in essence has become routine. Even boring.

As parents, we all get caught on autopilot at one point or another and end up wondering where the time went and what you have done with that time. The same thing happens to your husband, and to your kids. While a schedule is essential for you and your child’s daily life, you do get bored and need your routines shaken up just a bit every once in a while!

This book provides you with ideas galore for ways to do just that. These suggestions here are intended to help you break out of your Mom Rut, change your routine and recharge your batteries! There are activities for moms to do on their own, or with their friends or families.

Everyone, moms especially, need a change of scenery at one point or another. To find some wonderful ideas on how to get out of your rut, enjoy the ideas contained in this book and have a good time!

The Mom Rut - Connie Patterson

    The Routine

Remember your life before your kids? You may have spent most of your free time socializing with your other childless friends, traveling, going on spontaneous trips, spending your money impulsively and generally living a carefree life. Now that you have children, it’s likely that most of your friends also have kids, and that your conversations revolve around diapers, baby food, school, arts and crafts, and other mother specific topics. Your travels are no longer spontaneous and now involve scheduled (and unscheduled bathroom stops), snacks and activities to keep the kids amused, and creative ways to answer the age old question are we there yet? Your money can’t be spent recklessly anymore, because you are not the only one you have to think of now. You now have to budget and track your spending so that your children are provided for.

Now that you’re a mommy, the carefree, pre-child life you lived is over. Now don’t take this the wrong way. Partying and living for only you does get old after awhile, and being a mommy is one of the most fulfilling jobs a woman can do in her lifetime. Nothing tops the love of your child, or the feeling you get when you see your child and know that you created him or her.

But let’s face it, the routine of being a mommy can get repetitive. It can get to be a real drag. Day in and day out, you wake up at the same time, pack lunches, get your kids off to school, take your kids to after-school activities, host sleepovers, schedule play dates, and the list goes on. You may not want to go back to the life you had before you kids, but surely you do miss not being held to such a monotonous routine, and the identity you had of just you, rather than that of you and your children.

It is completely normal to feel this way. It doesn’t make you a bad mom and it doesn’t mean you love your children any less. It just means you might go stir crazy if you don’t do something to break up the routine once in a while.

Continue reading for ideas on how to counteract some of the monotony of parenthood.

    Why You Need a Break

Taking a break recharges your batteries and actually makes you a better parent. Your live your life for your children, of course, but it’s ok to take care of yourself. Doing activities outside of your normal routine helps you to stay in touch with yourself as a unique, interesting individual outside of you as being just a mom (Or dad. Yes, a lot of this applies to dads too!).

Before you became a parent, you were identified as you alone. Now, everyone probably knows you as (insert baby name here’s) mom. While the title of Mommy is one that you should be very proud to own, it shouldn’t be the only thing that defines you. You were awesome before you became a parent and you should never lose sight of that.

Too much of your routine can make you go crazy. Crazy is not exactly the best state of mind to approach parenting with. You need to find ways to strike a balance in your life for you own sanity and for the sake of your children.

No matter what your schedule, or your budget, there is sure to be something in this book that you can do and enjoy. Maybe these ideas will even inspire your own.

It may seem as though you don’t have time to get out of the routine, or if you do, your whole life will be disrupted to the point that you’ll never get your routine back. Luckily, this is completely in your head. Yes, you may disrupt life slightly, but you can always get back on track. When you do, your batteries will be recharged and you’ll go back to your mom routine feeling rejuvenated and refreshed! Your kids are your number one priority, but it’s essential to take care of yourself too.

No matter how much time and money you think you don’t have, you can find something in here bust through your mom rut and get energized. From jewelry making to Zumba classes, there’s an activity in here that will spark your interest. So, reschedule that parent teacher conference and get back to YOU.

Get In Touch With Your Creative Side

Being creative is incredibility inspiring, and it actually has several health benefits. Recent studies have proven that creative adults take less medications, have less doctors visit and have a lower risk for Alzheimer’s and dementia. You don’t have to possess Michelangelo-type artistic abilities to be creative. The purpose of this isn’t to become famous for your work or to make money, although, if that happens that’s perfectly fine too. The real purpose behind getting creative though, is to engage you in something interesting and to get the right side of your brain moving.
