    Prologue

TESSA SAT ACROSS FROM THE middle-aged Mr. Stone in his masculine office overlooking the BDSM club, Vitalz Los Angeles. It was the first time she’d been inside of that particular location, but four years prior, she’d sat across from a Ms. Gripe in Vitalz Atlanta to undergo her membership screening.

They had a location in just about every major city across the globe and were considered the top tier in the BDSM community. A highly reputable, strictly professional organization without so much as a smudge on their long history within the underground.

That didn’t explain why she’d received an appointment card from them out of the blue. Had someone accused her of breaking one of their strict guidelines? Tessa hadn’t indulged in any kink since she’d moved to L.A., so that idea was, hopefully, a stretch.

Miss Fauns, thank you for coming in. I apologize for the short notice, Mr. Stone began. We’ve updated your files with your current address, so that won’t happen again.

Mr. Stone, it was my responsibility to update my own file, I’m the one who should be apologizing, Tessa said quietly, still nervous as hell, despite his friendly demeanor.

No matter, it’s taken care of now, he smiled shortly, indicating that he didn’t want to spend another second discussing the issue. You’ve been asked in, because we’d like to offer you a very exclusive opportunity. An extremely important member of ours is hosting a week long getaway, and has requested a select assortment of submissives for their intended guests. Key points of interest were mentioned in that request, and you happen to have several of them. In particular, your fluency in French.

Do not jump out of the chair and do a happy dance! Tessa mentally scolded herself, fighting the urge to do just that. There was still the matter of details. Celebrating a tiny piece of something that could end up being horrible was more than just premature, it was foolish.

You will be given a gift of ten thousand dollars on a prepaid credit card, should you accept, Mr. Stone continued. And all of your travel arrangements and expenses would be completely taken care of.

Ten thousand dollars! Tessa had never had that much money all at once in her entire life. There were so many things she could do with that kind of money, but she knew exactly what she would spend it on. Her lifelong goal. It was nearly impossible to consider. He was offering to make her one and only dream come true.

Travel arrangements? she stammered, trying to keep her excitement under control.

Yes, the event will be taking place on a private island, Mr. Stone informed her.

What exactly would I be expected to do for the event? Tessa waited for the catch, because it all sounded way too good to be true.

That, I’m afraid, would be up to the one hosting the event and not something I’m privy to, Miss Fauns, Mr. Stone answered. No one except Club Vitalz knows who the host of the event is, nor is there any guarantee it will ever be disclosed. However, as all of our members are required to do, I can assure you that they have been thoroughly screened and have never had a negative report filed against them by anyone. They are, you could say, just as particular about our rules and guidelines, as we are. The trip is for eight days and seven nights, with all of your boarding and meals completely covered. I’m sure your care will also be covered, just as in any dynamic you would agree to be in. There’s only one catch...

Dammit! See, here it comes! Tessa mentally braced herself.

It has been expressed that the getaway is weighing very heavily on total anonymity for all of the guests, so should you accept, you will be signing the usual non-disclosure forms, as well as an agreement that you will not be permitted to have any kind of recorder, camera, or cell-phone in your possession the entire duration of your stay on the island. Those things will be taken from you when you arrive and returned to you upon your departure. Will that be an issue, Miss Fauns?

No way to call for help if something goes wrong? Yeah, that was kind of intimidating, but she could hardly turn down ten grand and an all-expenses paid kink vacation—especially when the money had the ability to turn her simple dream into an amazing new reality. The hardest part would be convincing her brother that she would be out of touch for an entire week. She would find a way.

Not at all, Mr. Stone, she smiled.

Excellent, he grinned, openly relieved. Let’s go over the contract, then.

    Chapter One

    The Auction

    "TESS! I THINK HE’S HERE!"

Tessa stopped ogling the Grand Eastern hotel and glanced over to see a sleek Bayliner pulling up to the private dock off the river bank. She hurried to catch up with Kip and Gema, her two unexpected travel companions who’d also been delayed by the same flight out of LAX, causing them all to miss the boat out of Nadi heading straight for the private island. It had been a little hard to miss the fact that they were the only three Americans boarding the same propeller plane to Labasa, so Kip had just bluntly asked if she and Gema were also on vacation courtesy of Vitalz. They’d pitched in for the cab fare from the airport to the hotel, where they’d finally been able to call the only contact number Mr. Stone had provided.

Don’t you think it’s a little suspicious that no one knows who’s hosting the event? Kip asked quietly, as they took the slope down to the dock.

I like it, Gema shrugged. Gives it that sexy aura of mystery. Like a Murder Mystery dinner party.

Oh, thanks! That’s exactly what I was hoping to compare it to, Tessa laughed.

Come on, you know it’s alluring, Gema continued. Everyone loves that kind of stuff. Personally, I think whoever’s hosting is a bona-fide genius. I don’t even think their guests know who they are.

That was the impression I got, too, Tessa nodded in agreement.

She had to admit, Gema’s view on it was kind of appealing. Perhaps that had been purposely done by the host or hostess. Still, it didn’t help settle her nerves over the entire ordeal. That ten grand sitting on a newly activated credit card in her wallet wasn’t exactly outshining her skepticism either. It felt like she was still sitting in Mr. Stone’s office back in L.A., waiting for the real catch.

Let’s hope we’re still invited, Kip sighed, before he rushed down the wooden dock to help tie off the boat. Ugh, what a thought. They weren’t even at the island yet, and were already the worst subs of the party for being late.

"Bonjour," the man behind the wheel greeted.

Tessa’s entire body lit up like the Fourth of July. She couldn’t help it, French always felt like home to her. Their rescuer was about five-eleven with sandy hair and soft brown eyes. He was handsome in an average way, not something that would stand out too much, though he was sporting some pretty impressive muscles. She liked the lines cupping his mouth, revealing that he laughed a lot—though he could be a sadist that liked laughing at other people’s pain. Shut up, brain!

I am Monsieur Louis, I will be your caretaker for the next week, he continued in English. Anything you need, you come to me. Before we depart, I’ll ask all of you to please turn off your cellphones and any other electronic devices. Place them in your carry-ons, which go on the seat here next to me. As was clearly stated in your contract for this event, there will be no video, audio, photographic or communication devices allowed. Our guests expect their anonymity to remain intact at all times. This is not America, the contracts you signed were not just a formality, they are legally binding and punishable by various laws that will not be pleasant, or financially helpful for you, should you break them.

Tessa swallowed that startling revelation. Not that she feared breaking her contracts, but it had been so easy to forget that she was in a totally different country with completely different laws than what she was used to. Thank goodness they’d be on a private island.

I would also like to apologize for your delayed flight, Monsieur Louis continued. We are relieved that you were still able to attend, and will reimburse you for the unexpected travel expense you had to incur from Nadi to Labasa. Come, if we’re lucky, we’ll make it back just in time for you to prepare before the guests arrive.

Holding his hand out, he helped Tessa and Gema into the boat, while Kip took care of the ropes. Once everyone was settled, Louis carefully eased them away from the dock and turned back toward the way he’d come from. The moment they were clear, he gave the throttle more power with an exhilarating jump in speed, heading north toward the ocean. None of them had been given the name of the island, for obvious reasons, so Tess hadn’t been able to MapQuest it to know for sure how long their boat ride might take.

Shouldn’t we be blindfolded or something? Kip asked loudly over the wind and motor.

Louis laughed and shook his head.
