    Daily Reflections

    by Masami Saionji

Believe in yourself! The universal law ordains that we will become exactly what we believe.

    dr_design

If we choose our words carefully, one by one, our thoughts and our lives will change accordingly, one step at a time.

    dr_design

Low-energy thoughts and feelings are unconsciously attracted to low-energy words. Light-filled words brimming with confidence bring about courageous changes in our lives.

    dr_design

The opposite of ‘possible’ is not ‘impossible.’ It is the unwillingness to do something.

    dr_design

Never be afraid of changes that might suddenly spring up during the course of your life. Such changes are golden opportunities to spur yourself toward better choices and decisions.

    dr_design

Our greatest enemy is our habit of constantly muttering excuses to ourselves.

    dr_design

Our health is inseparably related to the words we speak and the thoughts we hold in our mind.

The Importance of Sleep and Dreams

    by Masahisa Goi

We are pleased to introduce this chapter from Masahisa Goi’s book God Is Not Silent.

    When Dreams Are Born

Goi%205%20magazine.jpg On the whole, most people are interested in sleep and dreams, but don’t inquire into them very deeply. However, in recent years, scholars have begun to study these issues in earnest.

The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer said that real life is like reading a book page by page, starting from the beginning, but dreams are like reading the pages in random order. Dreams do not have the continuity that real life has, as events from the past and future appear abruptly. Physiologist Hayashi Takashi claims that there is a misunderstanding in this view. He says that while real life is like reading a book page by page—although one can reread the previous pages, it is forbidden to look at the parts that have not yet been read—dreams are fragments of past experiences that have been strung together as one pleases into one page. Thus, he says, dreams are neither of the past nor of the imagined future, but rather something created in the present.

John Pfeiffer, in his book about the true nature of sleep and dreams, divides sleep into four phases and provides a scientific explanation of the state of dreams in this context:

In the research on this field to date, 4,000 subjects climbed onto the experiment table and nighttime observation studies were conducted 10,000 times… their eye movements were captured as electronic signals and brain waves from the head were also captured. In addition, their heart rates, muscle tension, and other factors were tracked as electronic impulses…

Phase 1 is the dozing stage. A succession of irregular, low voltage
