    Summary - James Good

    INTRODUCTION

Covey describes a system for self improvement based on the following 7 habits:

    1.  Be Proactive

Take control of your life and make conscious decisions based on values and principles. Do not live reactively, always under the control of your feelings, circumstances and environment.

    2.  Begin with the End in Mind

Always remember the main purpose of your life and live each day in accordance with your end goal.

    3.  Put First Things Firs

Focus more on the things that help you live according to your mission statement and less on things that help you look busy.

    4.  Think Win/Win

When dealing with interpersonal relationships, try to come up with solutions that will benefit both parties.

    5.  Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

Learn to listen empathically, strive first to understand the other person. Once you master this, you will be better understood by others.

    6.  Synergize

Keep an open mind in relationships and build trust that allows for non-protective communication. This will help you synergize and unleash the creative potential of your relationships.

    7.  Sharpen the Saw

Always take the time to renew yourself and work on your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.

Adopting these habits, along with an inside out approach based on the character ethic instead of the personality ethic, is the secret to lasting success in life.
