    Message – ‘Help’

This is an emergency broadcast. Actually, it’s more like the 175thdistress call or something absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, not the point. To anyone who finds this message, please, we need your help. My partner, Cea and I have been drifting across unknown space in search of a new home for a very long time. We’ve lost count of how long we’ve been out here. It may have been weeks, it may have been months, at this point, who knows? Maybe even years. We woke up in some kind of scientific alpha-testing matrix just beyond the orbit of Saturn. We were used against our will, socially programmed and telepathically manipulated to commit genocidal acts against others like ourselves.

These ‘others’ I’m referring to are called ‘Bliss Ones’. Highly consciousness-sensitive humans, possessing a variety of exceptional abilities. Some of us can read minds, others can project their thoughts or control matter on a molecular level, along with a whole list of other extraordinary feats best left unmentioned. They were breeding Bliss Ones on that base we escaped from. For what purpose? I don’t know.

Cea and I broke free of their memory purges and fled. They chased us. They tried hard to capture us, over and over again, but we always broke free. It’s funny, I couldn’t really see them giving up on chasing us, but they did. Now the new enemy is… nothing. We’re drifting ever further into the blackness of space. The destination was Earth. Now, I’m not so sure that’s where we’ll end up. Our resources have been exhausted. Potatoes can’t cut it forever, Cea. We are tired, hungry and furious, yet all we have left in the bitter cold is each other.

We’re human with human limits. Which is why this will be the last recording. It took some time but we came to an agreement. Today we will activate the hypersleep chambers. We’re not sure how much longer we’ll be drifting out here. It might be forever, but even if it is, I can’t think of a better place to die. Especially with her at my side. We’ve had a crazy run out here. Been to some places. Seen some things. I don’t regret any of it. I really don’t.

Cea, this last part’s for you. Don’t worry. There are no flowers this time. And I don’t have a fancy ring to give you, sorry. All I can tell you is when I look into your crystal blue eyes, I can’t help but see hope, even when you’re crying. I’ll admit, it hasn’t been easy. We’ve been through hell and back. Thank you for coming into my life and thank you for being there till the bitter end. You’re just what I needed this lifetime. In more ways than I ever imagined.

    I’ll always love you.

    This is Jay, signing off.

    Chapter One

Just outside Earth’s orbit, where the powerful commune in giant space stations drifting around the planet, a strange, little disc-shaped ship slowly materializes from the darkness. Radars quickly detect the foreign object. No alien ship would be allowed to suddenly come down and shake hands with the people so easily. Not before they went through the ones who ruled the planet by the year 2100.

What is it? A navigational officer questioned his superior on board their large recovery vessel headed toward the foreign ship, ET? Lost cargo? He pulled a silver visor over his eyes. A reddish light shined from the visor as he observed the mystery in the design of the ship on their cameras. He was fascinated.

Not sure. A middle-aged captain announced to the crew, finding the need to assert his leadership aggressively – Let’s be careful. We might be onto something. Something no one else has. Let’s make this a clean run, ladies!

Clean run, that’s what they always say, the navigational officer rolled his eyes.

The recovery vessel neared the disc ship with caution. The difference in size became obvious. The recovery ship was about 400 meters long while the small disc ship was a mere 30. They tried opening communications, but nothing came through. After repeated attempts to ask the disc ship to stop, they realized two things. Firstly, it was no debris – it was definitely a ship of intelligent design and secondly, it appeared to be going nowhere; it was set adrift. The captain decided to order the crew to suit up – it was time to go in.

They used a fine-precision laser to cut open the ship’s hatch and floated inside, wearing thin, form-fitting space suits. The interior was eerily dark and abandoned. Dim, energy-saving lights gave off a warm, greenish haze to the environment. There was a 360-degree window that peered into the blackness of space which couldn’t be seen from the outside. In the middle, a small control panel with two seats behind it, awaiting the ship’s long gone occupants.

Now this is cool. The navigational officer commented.

Keep it in check Bane, this isn’t the time. The captain snapped at him, Alright, I…

Sir! Another one of the crew called out, You might want to come take a look at this!

The captain grumbled a little bit. He wanted things to go his way. Just when he was about to walk over to find some reason to disprove his crew’s intelligence, he found something that had the others shaking in their boots. Two large cylinders laid dormant, frozen in time. Hypersleep chambers. The captain cautiously took three steps closer, the rest of the crew backing away to let the man in charge handle the situation. He slowly rested his hand on the chamber and wiped away some of the frost on the glass.

What on earth… His stomach turned.

Think we hit jackpot boys. Bane exclaimed excitedly.

Inside the chambers laid two people. A man and a woman, frozen in hypersleep.

What should we do with them? One of the crew asked.

Take them. Bane’s right. This might just be our payday. The captain admitted.

    [Log File 12 Unlocked]

    Chapter Two

Jay could finally open his dark eyes to find himself alive after decades of sleep, weak and bedridden in what appeared to be a medical bay. He twitched around trying to make sense of his new surroundings. An unnerving cold chilled his newly awakened body to the core, while his in head swarmed a deep, agonizing pain. Around him, white floors and white walls with hospital apparatuses and their low-pitch working hums, reading the patient’s vitals. There was only one window .It showed a beautiful, yet quiet view of space and the large, shimmering blue gem that is Earth.

Jay moved his charcoal colored hand in front of his face. He couldn’t see a thing. He was blind as a bat. His heart immediately started racing in panic. He wondered if it was among the permanent effects of hypersleep. Not to mention, the influx of fragmented memories just made things worse. He was still experiencing random flashes from the dream world. That’s what was driving him insane. It was hard to tell what was real and what was a dream.

Relax. It’s temporary. Bane walked in, observing Jay closely like he was a doctor.

    I can’t see… Everything is so loud!

Common side effects of prolonged hypersleep. You’ll be fine. Bane reached for a nifty little gadget on the inside of his sleeve then pointed it directly at Jay’s eyes. A green flash of light shined right into his pupils. In the skip of a heartbeat, Jay’s sight returned.

Are you… Jay was stumbling on his words. He couldn’t believe he was seeing another person – Are you real?

Yes, I’m real. I’m sure you must have a lot of questions.

Jay weakly tilted his head around, trying to figure out his surroundings.

I’ve never seen this place before. How did I get here? Panic was at the slip of his tongue.

    Hey, listen – you’re safe.

Don’t tell me that! Jay snapped, furiously grabbing Bane’s wrist, I need to know!

He squared Bane dead in the eye letting him know this wasn’t the time for games. Bane simply looked at him curiously. Jay got a hold of himself. His nerves were shot and his emotions were unstable. He knew he’d overstepped his bounds. He wasn’t in any position to make demands, so he released Bane’s hand modestly.

    I’m sorry.

I know it’s tough. I’ve been taking care of you and the girl for the past few days. The two of you’ve been slipping in and out of consciousness. You probably don’t even remember. I had…

The girl? A lightbulb went off in Jay’s head, Cea. She’s here? Where is she?

She’s safe; resting at the moment. Now…

Where is she! His voice cracked in grief.

Bane just stared at him. His curiosity in his subject was too much for him to react in a volatile manner. Jay had to get used to being awake again. There were many things out of balance. Nevertheless, Bane could sense the importance in Jay seeing the girl, so he gave in to the request.

Alright. Bane moved to the right side of the bed where he pushed back a light blue curtain that was cutting Jay’s view from the other side of the room.

Sure enough, he wasn’t lying. Cea was there, laid in a fetal position, eyes shut and thankfully, still breathing. Her golden blonde hair covered most of her milky, pale face. It looked like she was still out of it.

What’s wrong with her? Jay asked in worry.

She’s fine. She’s just resting. Sometimes she would wake up while you were out like a baby.

Bane moved in front of Cea, forcing Jay’s attention on him instead.

Now… He folded his arms, Since you’re so adamant on being awake. I think I should probably tell you what you need to know.

Jay kept looking at him, gesturing him to go on.

Take a breath and don’t lose your mind over this one, okay? From the checks we did on the logs, if they’re right… The two of you have been drifting in hypersleep for the better part of the century. A little over seventy years…

Over seventy years, Jay replayed the words in his head.

"…we picked you up near the Higher Orbits. I don’t know who sent you or where you came from, but whoever the two of you are? You’re very valuable to certain interests. I’ve been keeping an eye on you. Doing some background checks and what not. I found nothing in public databases. There’s nothing on the system about you two."

    I don’t know what you’re talking about.

    Beep! Beep! Beep!

Bane’s casually slick look quickly went to a worried oh-no. He raised his sleeve and pressed a couple of buttons on his wrist-watch gadget. Suddenly a holographic image shot out of his watch, showing what was happening outside. Three large spacers, about 200 to 400 meters each, were headed their way.

    Oh great. He sighed.

What is it?! Jay didn’t know what to expect.

Were they going to tell him he’s an alien?

Right, so. Bane spun around anxiously, unsheathing a handheld blaster weapon which resembled an old-time handgun – Remember those certain interests I told you about?

Jay nodded his head, silently asking Bane to go on.

Well, that’s them. Bane moved toward Cea. He pulled out another gadget from his sleeve and flashed her with an orange light.

    Hey! Jay shouted at him.

Relax, I’m waking her up. Bane held the gadget to Jay and flashed him too.

Jay instantly felt a lightning surge of energy in his legs from the device.

I need the two of you to get up. If we don’t get out of here, they’re gonna’ kill us.

No more words needed be said. Bane knew he was risking, taking two freshly thawed sleepers out of their step by step medical care, but he had no choice. There was something he wasn’t saying and Jay was determined to find out what it was. Jay got out of the bed, nearly stumbling on his face as he limped over to Cea to help her up. It was about to get a lot crazier because she wasn’t prepared for the chaos. Then again, neither was he.

On the Captain’s deck, one of crew spotted the three spacers headed their way.

Sir, I think you might want to take a look at this! He called.

The Captain moved toward him, glancing at the camera systems uneasy.

Sweat dripped from his forehead – Those bastards. How’d they find out, already?

    Should we hail them?

No! The Captain snapped fearfully, Set the drives, Lunar. Get us out of here!

Suddenly, everything went quiet and abruptly froze. A deep red light circled the entire recovery vessel. The glow from the outside was shining into the windows, making the whole room glow with this red light.

No power! Sir, I can’t get the systems back online! Another one of the crew panicked.

The Captain looked around. He knew this was it. He took a glance at his men solemnly.

I want everyone on this deck armed with a blaster and an EMP. If these bastards want blood, they’ve got it! We’re not dying on our knees!

    The crew of fifteen looked
