Project Genesis: plus Life pod

There are two stories here. 1. Project Genesis. A team of scientists is sent to a space station to ride out an apocalyptic war on Earth. They carry a payload of human gametes and newly invented artificial wombs. Their mission is to use the equipment to repopulate Earth if it becomes necessary. They return to an Earth almost devoid of human life and begin preparing for the project when one of the scientists goes psychotic and demands to use the equipment to start a super race. When the others oppose him he goes berserk, gets control of all the weapons and starts killing.
2. Life Pod. two astronauts are on a mission when an accident damages their space ship. They take to the on-man life pods. One of them takes advantage of the situation to settle an old grudge with the other by sabotaging his pod.

Chapter one

Rudy Shavers, New Order Militiaman, drove the rented truck through the heavy traffic of Washington, D.C. He spotted the loading zone he was looking for and pulled over. He jumped out, ran to the front of the truck, and raised the hood.

Moments later a man came out of the store facing the loading zone. Hey man, you're in my loading zone. Get that thing fixed and get it out of here or I'll have you towed off.

Rudy sized the man up. He was considerably smaller than Rudy. Rudy was hot tempered, and had been in many a street fight since he was a teen. He did not like the attitude of this little jerk, and figured the man was begging for a butt kicking. He did not doubt that he could handle the little man easily.

But he managed to control his temper, for the importance of his mission far outweighed any humiliation he might suffer at the hands of this little dude.

Look, mister, I'm working on it, and think I've just about got it fixed. Please be patient with me for just a few more minutes.

OK, but hurry it up. If you're there much longer I'm calling the tow truck. The little man turned and reentered the store.

Minutes later, a blue pickup truck pulled up behind him, and the driver joined Rudy in front of the rental truck.

Rudy was agitated. You took your sweet time, Woody. Dammit, we gotta get this done before some nosy cop comes along. On top of that the guy in the store is giving me a hard time. Fiddle around under the hood while I get in back and set the timers.

Rudy ran to the rear of the truck, opened the door, and hopped in. A shiver of fear ran through him as he began setting the timers on the two large cylinders. He’d never handled stuff like this before. The KB-2 Ebola virus, biological warfare stuff. He didn’t know how it had gotten into the hands of The New Order Militia, and he knew better than to ask. But
