Wanting the Boss - Delaney Rush

    Chapter One

Kristine sat on the porch of her parent's large farm house, watching the wind blow through the tall golden sea of wheat. There wasn’t a whole lot in Iowa other than wheat and farms. Kris figured that a lot of people would have been bored growing up in Iowa, but she loved it. She’d always been attracted to the small town life.

The wind worked its way through Kristine’s hair, making the golden locks lick her pinked cheeks. Winter was just around the corner and she felt a deep sadness squeeze her heart, making it feel like there was a two ton anvil sitting on her chest. She was going to miss the first snow.

When she was a kid the first snow meant that the real fun was about to begin. Snowball fights and sledding down massive hills were always some of her favorite activities. Even as a twenty-four-year-old, she still loved all of those things. In a sense she never really grew up.

Kristine was an only child and her parents always doted on her. She was spoiled for sure, but it never turned her into a brat. She’d worked hard for the things that she’d gotten in life but her parents had always been there to back her up and support her threw it. Soon she was going to be completely on her own and hundreds of miles from her parent’s farm.

It was picturesque against the backdrop of the setting sun. The white siding reflected the slightly pink light of the sun as it disappeared behind the flat land and rolling prairies. Most people thought the old farmhouse was boring with its plain colors and old glass windows, but Kris loved it. She loved how it reflected the landscape around them.

The neighbor’s house was a pretty Robin’s Egg blue, but it was always that color. Kris’ house changed color all the time, depending on what time of year it was and the hour of the day. She sighed and leaned back against the smooth, veneered wood of her parent’s porch and looked up at the ceiling. She watched the humming bird wind chime blow back and forth in the gentle wind.

Kristine Price was going to be leaving for New York the very next morning. She had honestly never planned on leaving Iowa but her education was useless here. She’d attended Iowa State for the last four years and earned her degree in journalism. She always dreamed of working for the local newspaper, but would soon find out that there was no money in it and no job openings. The man who ran the paper told her that if she really wanted to make it as a journalist she needed to go to New York.

New York seemed so far away, but despite her fears she’d put in a
