About this ebook

Those from Hell cannot be trusted.
Suspicion and annoyance boils within Sam. A demon loves him, but he's unsure of what to do about it. She's impulsive, sexy, and dangerous. And now, he's taking Delilah to meet his family. It's supposed to be the perfect weekend in a cozy cabin. With his cheerful mom, religious dad, and a sister that's nothing but question marks, a demon should fit right in. Sam is dreading all of it, of course. But when weird things start happening, he'll have something real to fear. The cabin is inhabited by something other than human. Sam's family is in danger. Their hope rests with Delilah. If only Sam could trust her.

K.D. Reed

K.D. Reed roams about with her husband and two dogs. Right now home is Salt Lake City, Utah in the U S of A and they're pretty cozy there. But! They have a horrible case of wanderlust and break free when they can. If you hadn't guessed, she likes to write things. The written word is her weapon of choice on life's battlefield. She's always been an imaginative kid, and she tries to put that to good use. Words sort of pour out of her. It can't be helped. She fancies reading (shocker!), drinking coffee, and classical music. She's owned a coffee shop, worked for a truck driving school, and sold wedding dresses. Now, she writes and moonlights as a princess. In 3rd grade she dressed up as a congresswoman for career day. Outer Space fascinates her, she's a sucker for a good pun, and she loathes vegetables.

    About the Author

    --1--

Hawaii. In a hammock. Listening to a baseball game on the radio.

    That's where I'm not.

I'm in my car. My demon girlfriend is driving. It's raining.

Delilah swerves around people, without signaling, and berates them as she goes by.

You belong in Hell! she yells at a mini-van.

Could you slow down? I ask. It's pouring. The rain patters on the windshield. It's loud. There's a sheet of water on the road.

    So?

    It's not safe.

Big baby. She doesn't slow the car.

My new car. Fresh off the lot last week. It's blue, starts with a remote, and has heated seats. Delilah got it for me.

Maybe that makes it her car.

It's your car. I just helped, she says.

I didn't think it was possible, but I've actually gotten used to her listening in. It still annoys me. My teeth grit every time she responds to my thoughts. But, I'm not surprised by it anymore. She won't stop doing it. I've tried everything. I've ignored her, glared at her, and yelled at her. Once, I threw my shoe at her. She caught it, mid-sentence. So, for now, I've given up on the issue. I'll suffer in silence. Honestly, I've got bigger problems.

Like the fact that she's a demon.

    Who's in love with me.

And I'm taking her to meet my family.

The girl doesn't even use the windshield wipers. Apparently, being immortal gives you the gift of special sight, and superior driving skills.

It does. She smiles. Pearly teeth between sunset pink lips.

    Plump lips.

    Perfect lips.

Need me to pull over for a quickie? She narrows her eyes, and puckers her lips.

No, thank you. It's not the worst idea she's had. But, we're running late.

    Delilah pouts. That's a shame.

No it isn't. It's a losing battle, but I'm trying to stay away from her until I know it's safe.

You're always safe with me, Sammy. I hear.

Her words in my head are chilling. They echo and vibrate. Hearing her in there is much more invasive than her just listening to my thoughts. She penetrates what should only be my own. My mind.

It seems Delilah is in almost every part of me. She knows everything I'm thinking. All the time. She knows what I'm going to say, what I'm going to do, how I'm going to feel. And it's worse when she's within. Being possessed by a demon was nothing I thought it would be. She feels what I feel. Which is what she wants. Human emotions. And her feelings mix with mine. Lending me what I lack. Things like confidence and gumption. But it's made what we are confusing and treacherous.

For me anyway. She'll be fine.

The worse she'll suffer is a broken heart.

An angry regret burns in my stomach. Having attended my girlfriend (okay, ex-girlfriend) Julia's funeral a month ago only reminds me of what Delilah is capable of.

    She can kill.

Actually, she can make me kill.

I'm the one who stabbed the poor girl.

Delilah spits out a laugh. Poor girl?

    Delilah, don't.

    She huffs. Fine.

In silence we continue down the road. Still too fast, she's speeding by fifteen or so. At least the car seems to be handling well.

So, you like the car? she asks.

    I like it fine.

Sammy! I was trying to do a nice thing for you. I wish you could see that.

I know. It would just be nice if I could afford the car myself.

    You can!

I roll my eyes. Maybe being immortal and magical prevents her from understanding the concept of success. You added the thousands of dollars to my bank account-

    Hundreds of thousands.

I ignore that. I didn't earn it. The success is yours. Not mine.

I'd hardly call it success. Money can only make you successful on the outside. It's what you do with it that measures your life's achievement.

There's a familiar throb between my eyes. It'd be great to win, just once.

Delilah giggles. The haunting, girly snicker. It will always give me chills. That's the thing with Delilah. I'm either shivering... or too hot. Way too hot.

Why don't we talk about something else? she asks.

Like what? I watch the drops race down the window.

We could talk about one of two things. Both if you're feeling adventurous.

    I don't want to play.

I lurch forward as she slams
