About this ebook

Every day after work, Haley goes to the bar across the street from her apartment to get a drink. It's the only time she gets to see Skylar, her bartender and crush. She would like to get to know him as more than a friend but she's afraid he won't be interested and she'll have to go elsewhere for her after work drink.

When Skylar asks Haley to pretend to be his girlfriend for a night, she is more than happy to oblige. She finally has the chance to make something happen without risking anything. But pretending proves to be more difficult than she thought. She's not sure she can resist the pull any longer with her feelings growing stronger, and it seems like Skylar is feeling the same way.

At the end of the night, will they be willing to turn a fake relationship into a real one?

    Five more minutes.

If they ever did a study on the longest five minutes you can experience in your life, I'm willing to wager it's the last five minutes of your workday on a Friday. Well, maybe not, but you know what I mean.

Did you email Philip? Angela asks from the cubicle next to me.

Finishing it up now. My fingers clack away on the keyboard as I glance at the clock. Four more minutes.

Don't forget to copy me on the email so I can follow up next week to make sure he replies.

Done. And done. When I click send, I'm a little over three minutes away from freedom.

Thank you, dear! she says in a singsong voice.

    You're welcome, honey!

She stands up to peek over at me and her chin length chestnut hair bounces. And thank you for staying late.

I smile, straightening a stack of invoices. I place them inside a folder, slide my chair over to the filing cabinet, and shove the folder in. It's not a problem.

I'm just glad you were able to stay on short notice. I didn't expect Suzie to call off.

It's not your fault, or hers. Part of me wishes I could be mad at Suzie for making me stay an hour later than my normal shift, but I can't be. It's the first time she’s called in sick in the six months she’s been here. What's unfortunate is that it happened on one of the busiest days we've ever had. If I have to answer one more phone call, I may scream. Did she say whether she'll be able to make it in on Monday?

Angela nods. She said she'll be here. Thanks again, Haley. I couldn't have made it through the day without you.

Like I said, it's not a problem. I can use the overtime. I quickly peek at my watch as I shrug into my black denim jacket. It's finally seven now, so by the time I get to the bar it'll be packed.

He'll still be there, you know, Angela says with a smirk.

I have no idea what you're talking about. My light brown hair falls over my face as I duck to get my purse from the desk drawer.
