    William Wymark Jacobs (September 8, 1863 - September 1, 1943), was a British humorist, writer and narrator. And 'better known for one of his macabre tales, The Monkey's Paw, included in the book of short stories The Lady of the Barge (1902). Most of his work, however, is attributed to the comedy genre.

    Jacobs was born in Wapping (London) in which wharf his father worked. He attended a private school and then at Birkbeck College. In 1879 he started working as postmaster. He published his first novel in 1885. His road to success has been
