    About the Author

Chapter 1: Theme: Write a Story that starts with a screech

Caiside clenched his teeth as he covered his ears. He hated loud screeches. He closed the atlas he had been glued to the pass hour as he stood up. He neatly stacked the books on the table, flinching with every screech he heard.

"Be calm Caiside. Be calm." he thought to himself. I can’t murder a mortal for just making a screeching sound. No matter how horrible it is. He clenched his fist as another -screech shot out. I can’t murder them here at least.

He followed the screeches to the source. He had to see who was making the horrible sounds for himself. He turned down several halls of long book shelves until he was near the back of the library. He peeked out the last long shelf and arched an eye at the sight.

His twitched as the screech from the chair rang out. Bloody hell! What are you doing Donald?

Donald stopped shuffling about with the chair. His flushed face darted up. He opened his mouth to speak, but only fumbled when he spoke. He decided to shut his trap and stared down at the chair. He began tapping his fingers on the back of the chair.

Caiside glared at him. Well? he waved his arm at the sight before him.

It’s, Donald took a deep breath, Hmm… Oh why bother. He slumped his shoulders. I’m practicing.

Practicing what? Caiside crossed his ankles as he leaned against a bookshelf. How to drive someone mad with the constant screech of a chair?

How could you possibly hear that? Donald ranted. You were at the front of the library with your nose stuck in an atlas. A screaming baby came by you and you didn’t even flinch. How could you possibly hear a chair squeak at the very back of library? It’s like a football field away from where you were. No normal person would’ve heard.

Caiside stared at him blankly for a few moments. Normal person? He barked in laughter. Don’t you mean, mortal? Or did you forget Mr. Hollins that I am not mortal?

Donald slapped his hand to his face. How could I forget you weren’t mortal?

I know! Caiside felt a bit offended. I mean, you did kind of try to kill me when you found out. How could you forget committing attempted murder? What kind of wizard are you?

Witch. Donald pouted with a stern glare. I’m a witch. Not a wizard. There is a difference.

Caiside tilted his head as he walked over. He looked at the table. There were two plates and silverware set out. It wasn’t set up properly, but it was a cute attempt. So, what is a witch like you practicing? He picked up a silver fruit knife. A new spell to slay me? Even after I told I only want a home? Isn’t that a bit cruel? He smiled as he held the small knife to Donald’s throat.

Donald glared. I wish. He snatched the knife from Caiside’s hand. That would be easy! But organizing a fancy dinner, however, isn’t. He glared at the table. It still isn’t right. He shook his head.

No, it isn’t. Caiside hopped onto the table. He leaned over and twirled a fork.

Donald glared as he slammed his hand on the fork. Must you annoy me? Why don’t you go back to your little home search?

Caiside laid down on the table and looked up at Donald. Something about the angle was interesting. It reminded him of looking up at his victims from under the lake water. Only the image before him was perfectly clear. It sent strange tingles across his body. He must be hungry. He hadn’t eaten for a while.

Donald watched the emotions flow on Caiside’s face. He still wasn’t sure what kind of creature Caiside was. He’d been struggling to figure out what creature Caiside was since he gave him that cocky smirk.

"You’re smart. Figure it out. If you guess right, I’ll forgive you for trying to kill me." Caiside stated as he smoothed out his clothes.

What are you thinking about now? Donald crossed his arms.

Caiside’s large dark eyes shifted over to him. He rested his head on the back of his hand as he spun the fork on the table again. He was having urges again. He needed to go eat or he would wind up eating Donald. Eating a witch wasn’t something he wanted to do. He twisted a strand of his curly hair with his finger as he continued to stare at Donald.

Donald shifted on his feet. Something about the way Caiside stared made him uncomfortable. He felt nervous and queasy, like
