The Pickford Community Library's Young Writers Workshop (YWW) is the largest group of aspiring authors in the state of Michigan. INTRODUCTION
Thanks to the
Pickford Community Pickford Community Library and its manager, Ann Marie Smith, young people in Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula have the opportunity to attend the Young Writers Workshop where they learn the basics of writing and publishing. They attend a series of sessions at the library, free of charge, for an hour every two weeks throughout the school year. Staff members of JLB Creatives Publishing volunteer their time to meet with the participants—several of them via digital conferencing—and share their knowledge of the literary field.
At the end of each year’s workshop the group members have the opportunity to become published authors. JLB Creatives Publishing compiles an e-anthology of the members’ works and makes it available at no cost to readers through Smashwords. In addition, area library card holders have access to it online, as the anthology is listed on Overdrive. Returning Young Writers Workshop members are encouraged to write and publish on Smashwords—free of
