About this ebook
Luigi Musso was the son of an Italian diplomat who gained fame as a Formula 1 racer, first for Maserati and then Ferrari. He began racing in an outmoded Giannini which he entered in sports car races in Italy. By 1955 Musso was the top driver for the Maserati Grand Prix team. He changed to Ferrari following the '55 season. Luigi also raced sports cars throughout Europe at Le Mans, etc., and at Sebring International in the United States. Some of the drivers he teamed with included Formula One Grand Prix champs Mike Hawthorn of England and American Phil Hill from Los Angeles. It was an era of the single-seater F1 cars, and the Italian marques matched their British competitors, Aston Martin, Jaguar, etc., with a vigorous determination to win races.

Luigi Musso (July 28, 1924-July 6, 1958) joined the Ferrari team in 1955, with two esteemed British drivers, John Michael Mike Hawthorn (April 10, 1929-January 22, 1959) and Peter Collins (November 6, 1931-August 3, 1958) as his teammates.
Debuting in Formula 1 as a Maserati driver on January 17, 1954, Musso began his career racing sports cars. In 1954 Luigi won the Coppa Acerbo, a non-championship event.
Luigi was the youngest of three sons of an Italian diplomat whose career involved traveling to China for many years. Luigi's brothers were opposed to their kid brother buying his first car a 750 cc Gianini of vintage age. Musso replaced the old parts on the car as they became obsolete. The youth's ideal car was a sleek Maserati. However he was unable to afford it. During the Tour of Sicily race Luigi was fortunate enough to have his Giannini hold together until the finish. A moment of inattention proved costly, however, when he
