    This book is entirely dedicated to my wife, Yu Yan Ting, who is also known to me by her English name, Maggie, and to my daughter, Angel.  This book has been made possible, only because of my marriage and family support.  Of this, I am certain.  In fact, it is only because of real family, namely, Maggie and Angel, and no one else, that this book is even remotely possible.  Special honorable mention and many thanks also goes out to my mother-in-law, Maggie's mother, for also providing us with major help here in China.  Oh yeah, and much thanks goes to my mother and father in Hawaii.  Thanks be to real family who have enabled me to write this book in China.  The assistance my mother and father have provided to me, has seemed to be more like a miracle to me, because of the frequent occurrence of their displeased attitude towards me, at my prolonged stay in China.  Some of the claims and revelations I make in this book, are quite stunning and remarkable, beyond belief.  What would otherwise have been buried and lost to history forever, due to my lack of desire and ability to reveal anything, will, instead, be revealed in concrete fashion, through the physically permanent and enduring record of this book.  And once again, made possible only because of family.  Real family in a world of strangers, full of guile, deceit, and heartless ambition.  Aah, how comforting it is to pursue one's dreams, from the ability to withstand the outside cold, by subduing and thrashing it, with the warmth from the inside, and with the power and recognition that comes along with it.  This description is similar in comparison to a very young child of innocent purity, like a cherub, who is unaffected by sinful influences.  And therein lies the power to me and to everyone else, who find peace of mind and tranquility through a certain spiritual inner type of experience, an inner burning of light, so to speak.  So, to my family, thank you very much!

    Regarding the title of this book:  I realize this title, as shown on my title page, is a pretty long one.  Yet, when I thought about it, books that become published generally have very short and simple titles, so I figured there must be some very good reason for this in the publishing world.  And so, I came up with a double solution.  I simply attached my initials, BHN, to be the short form of the title of this book.  Therefore, the long title on my title page, or just the simple title, BHN, are both permitted by me to be the title of this book.

    Chapter 1

    A Secret Miracle Revealed

         Do an internet search to find the world record for the standing long jump.  You'll come up with names like Ray Ewry, who jumped 11'-5"(3.48m) at the Olympics in the early 1900's, when the Olympics were just starting out.  His world record stood for decades later, probably helped by the fact that standing jumping events were discontinued from the Olympics after 1912, and discontinued internationally in the 1930's.  Interestingly, Ray Ewry also won gold in the standing high jump(world record 1.65m) and the standing triple jump.  The current world record holder in the standing long jump, is listed as being, Arne Tvervaag.  There's not much written about him, except that he's Norwegian, a power lifter, and he claimed the world record, with a standing long jump of 3.71m(12'-2"), on 11 November 1968.  At the time when my interest in the standing long jump was just starting to take on immense proportions, I had a copy of the 1974 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.  In it, was listed Joe Darby, the professional jumper from England, who standing long jumped 12'-2½(3.72m) towards the end of the 19thcentury in Victorian England.  Also listed, was the Icelander, Evandt(I forgot his full name), who standing long jumped 11'-11¾, in 1969, in Reykjavik, Iceland.  Later editions of the Guinness Book of World Records, discontinued listing these two.  I'm not exactly sure why.  In a nutshell, this is the state of my knowledge of the best standing long jumps that have been recorded by humankind.  Searching the internet does not return much more. 

    So what's the point of all this, you might ask?  What follows may seem so downright incredible, that you might shake your head in disbelief and brush-off with contempt, what are obvious lies.  If lies are what I am propagating, then this book would crumble in a second.  However, in what follows, I know the truth to be much stranger than fiction, and as such, I am only willing to write this, because I can back up my claims 100% and more.

    But before we get into these miraculous claims, let me explain what a standing long jump is, to those who may not know.  A standing long jump is just what it sounds like.  It is essentially an attempt to jump a maximum horizontal distance from a standing position.  Anyone who has initially attempted this jump, knows that there is this highly constraining feeling to get distance on this jump.  That is, there is this natural feeling to take steps forward, to make it a natural jump and increase distance.  Taking any step disqualifies your jump.  This jump is known as a measurement of explosive power, which is the amount of power a person can produce on the fly, as opposed to a long jump with a running start, where most of the power is produced on the run up.

    WITH ALL THIS ASIDE, THEN, HERE IS MY PROPOSED MIRACLE THAT I CAN ABSOLUTELY BACK UP.  I ENUMERATE IT AS POINTS:

    POINT NO. 1

      This is what started everything—ONE DAY I MADE A DECISION TO ONLY DRINK PURE WATER, AND THAT IS TO SAY, WATER WITH NO ADDITIVES → NO SUGAR, NO FLAVORINGS, NO SOUP, NO COFFEE, NO TEA, NO ALCOHOL, NO SOFT DRINKS, NOTHING BUT PURE WATER.  To be sure, when eating, I could not avoid taking in the food's water, sauces, juices or whatever.  But when drinking, I made the active decision to go cold turkey on pure water only.  THE RESULTS I GOT HERE WERE NOTHING SHORT OF MIRACULOUS, MIND-BLOWING, AND UTTERLY SHOCKING! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

    POINT NO. 2

    Shortly into the water program, I seemed to develop muscles and power out of nowhere.  My method of quantifying this development was by, you guessed it, the standing long jump, so there was absolutely no error in what I was observing.  This muscle development is amazing in itself.  Before the water program, my muscles were flaccid and very limp.  It was as if I was incapable of toning my muscles.  I know, today, that it was because I was not drinking enough pure water.  Doing too much of the other drinking was bad for me and making me unhealthy.  Let's just say that it's my unique internal biology, and that by drinking enough pure water, some very incredible things happened and will happen.  Before the water program, it was probably impossible to advance my muscular development much further.  Whereas after the water program, decades later to my current advanced age(well into middle age), I continue to get new muscles and more flexibility.  You must be shaking your head—with enough exercise, anyone can develop and maintain their physique.  I am not that physically active, I do nothing special in terms of physical exercise, I am overweight, and you could say I am a couch potato.  When I claim it, I mean what I claim very technically—The water has developed my muscles and increased my power continuously up to this day, and well into middle age.  Exercise has played a very minor role, because I do very little.  And because I have been drinking enough pure water every day, I have never lost anything gained.  Never.  What I have gained, has stayed with me permanently.  Who can make these claims?  Probably no human on this planet, has got it close to what I have.  It takes work conditioning for people to be able to generate impressive power.  People can't produce such incredible results, from basically just drinking water.  What I have done is to violate human mechanics, big time.  But this is not all there is to it.  Read on, because it gets much, much, much more surprising......

    POINT NO. 3

      The main theme of this book is centered around the standing long jump, because it has been the main measurement gauge of my physical state and progress.  But most importantly, it was for the high level of the jump, namely, the actual extreme distances jumped, that makes this book possible.  This book is not based on weaving loosely interrelated items, to make some interesting, but largely unsubstantiated claims.  This book is based on an extreme and miraculous world record, that I can back up any day, by letting my actual jumping do all the talking.  YOU READ IT RIGHT!!!—I broke Norwegian Arne Tvervaag's 12'-2"(3.71m) standing long jump world record, some time in 1987, aged 23. I just never advertised this fact for all these decades.  I had my reasons.  You might say that people break world records every day.  Then here is my associated, YOU WILL BE SHOCKED trivia: 

    All of this power development was done by pure water only, as described in Points 1 and 2.  There was no special exercise, no special drugs or any special substances, no special regimen, no nothing, except for staying away from any drinking, other than pure water.

    Before the water, I was unfit with limp muscles, not very physically active, and overweight.  My standing long jump was around 6 ft. something(≈2m).  I know this for a fact, because I remember trying it out in my back yard, when I was about 17 years old.[1]  During the water program, I became more fit, muscles started appearing that I didn't even know I had, my flexibility kept increasing, and my resting pulse rate went from just over 100 beats per minute, to 30~80 beats per minute, depending on if I had eaten recently, and depending on how rested I had been.  As always and up to this day, I was not very physically active and my overweight stature has been roughly the same.  But though consistently overweight, my muscularity has also increased up to this day.  Which brings me to,My Most Shocking and Spectacular Claims Regarding My Standing Long Jump.  There are 3 in total.  Here is, CLAIM 1:  IT TOOK ME BY MY ESTIMATION, 8-10 MONTHS, FOR ME TO GO FROM A ROUGHLY 6FT. SOMETHING( ≈2m) STANDING LONG JUMP, TO BREAKING ARNE TVERVAAGS'S 12'-2"(3.71m) WORLD RECORD.> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >THAT'S RIGHT, YOU READ IT HERE FOLKS!!!—In 8-10 months, I broke the world record, from virtually nothing, to being best of the best in the world, by doing virtually nothing(drinking water).  This is just a claim unproven to you, at best, but which I know in my heart to be the truth.  Yet, let me give you some circumstantial evidence possibilities—if you saw my current standing long jump performance at my advanced age(well into middle age), and at my huge overweight size, which I'm sure no one could even come close to jumping, then I think you might admit I could be telling the truth.

    You might think after breaking the 12'-2"(3.71m) world record, that the rest of my standing long jump attempts must taper off around here.  After all, this is like a human limit.  However, my answer is most assuredly, NO.  The future will prove it doesn't stop.  My standing long jump progression won't stop for me. Continue on, with this utterly shocking inside story, and the related shocking facts and figures, in Points 4, 5, and 6.

    POINT NO. 4

      My standing long jump progression did not stop and I was overjoyed.  It became like my beloved hobby.  However, the days of increasing my standing long jump by 2 yards(2m) per year, were long gone.  Shortly after attaining the world record, the rate of increase fell off sharply, yet on the other hand, the increasing power would not stop.  It was definitely measurable in the ensuing years.  From 1986 to 1995, I more or less kept regular tracking of my standing long jump progress.  But then in 1995, I moved to the China area, got married to a Chinese, and have been living in China ever since.  In China, I have not been keeping track of my standing long jump progress.  In China in 2008, I made some jumps into sand, and it supported what I've known all along—my power has been increasing as always.  There were many people around, which gave me little desire to do any maximum power jumps, so I won't report on the specific numbers here.  What I know is this—I've never been more flexible, I've never had more muscles, and I've never felt lighter on my feet than today.  This brings me to the Most Shocking and Spectacular Claims Regarding My Standing Long Jump. CLAIM 2: MY STANDING LONG JUMP DID NOT TAPER OFF AT THE 12'-2"(3.71m) WORLD RECORD.  IT JUST KEPT MOVING FORWARD ON AND ON.  AS I WAS TRACKING THE PROGRESS REGULARLY FROM 1986 TO 1995, THIS IS JUST A PROVEN STATEMENT OF FACT.  AND MY BELIEF IS THAT TO THIS DAY, DECADES LATER AT MY ADVANCED AGE(WELL INTO MIDDLE AGE), IT STILL HAS NOT TAPERED OFF OR STOPPED IMPROVING.  After 1995, I cannot back up this statement with real standing long jump measurements, but I can feel it, as I have already pointed out above.  And as always, not that I have been doing much of anything physically, but the increased power just seems to come out of nowhere.

    So what, you might ask, was my last verifiable and greatest standing long jump distance, that I have ever measured?  You will not believe me!!!  So utterly unbelievable is it.  But before you shake your head in ridicule, and at the same time shout No Way!!!, brace yourself for this answer—MY LAST MAXIMUM POWER STANDING LONG JUMP MEASUREMENT WAS IN 1995.  MY CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE OF THIS MEASUREMENT PUTS THE DISTANCE AT AROUND 16 FT.(4.9m).  NO!!!!!WAY!!!!!(your feelings perhaps?).  Let me also point out, that my latest jump measurement took place in 1995, and as such, it is now many years later.  That's many more years on pure water and many more years for improvement.  More on this in Point 5.  I CAN BACK UP THIS DISTANCE AND MORE, ANY DAY, AND ANY TIME. I called this 16 ft.(4.9m) a conservative estimate, because of the distance you lose when doing the measurement yourself, and my legs were somewhat tired at the time, too.  At the time, I did many pure hard floor jumps, then I finally tried jumping into a sand pit on that same day.  By pure hard floor jump, I mean a jump that is both jumped, then landed onto a hard floor.  As opposed to a jump that is jumped from a hard floor, but then landed into a soft surface like sand.  Jumping into a sand pit or similar soft surface, is the only way to get a perfectly accurate jump measurement, whereas for landing onto a hard surface, you must think to land safely, then add on an appropriate extra distance, from experience, to account for the safe technique and lost distance in landing on a hard floor.  It might sound like cheating, but it's really not intended to be.  Believe me, I know.  Doing a 16 or 17 ft. jump is a hard fall to take.  Jumping with or without a sand pit, is like comparing two different animals.  It would be unsafe to treat a hard floor as if it were a sand pit, especially at the distances I am referring to.  Anyway, I am claiming 16 ft.(4.9m) into a sand pit, so there is no controversy.  However, for lack of good jumping facilities, and by my estimation of my pure hard floor jumping measurements, my real standing long jump was probably closer to 17 ft.(5.2m) in 1995.  For this sand pit I was just writing about, I used it to define a 16 ft.(4.9m) standing long jump in 1995.  Actually, I never used this particular sand pit but once, because it was out in the open and I preferred the anonymity of closed spaces.

    Finally, let's put these numbers into perspective:

    Let's define a value A = a very elite level of performance that very few have ever attained—not a world  record, but very close to the world record.  Then let's assign A values to various events,

    A110m Hurdles= 13 sec;  A Human Age Longevity= 115 years old

    A Standing Long Jump= 12'-0"(3.66m)

    Your exceptionality in your event can be defined as a ratio, call this the Exceptionality Ratio R,  and define P = an individual's best measurement in an event.  Then,

    The choice depends on whether a bigger or smaller measurement in an event represents greater performance.  You'll see it in the example below.  It'll become crystal clear.

    Next define Hypothetical Exceptionality in Another Event,  H= a purely hypothetical value that shows your hypothetical performance in other events, if you did them as well as in your event.  See example below, then it will become crystal clear.  But first define H,

    H Event =  A Event R  , this is just simple proportional scaling

    Example: Robert Wadlow, at 8'-11"(2.72m), is the tallest human ever.

    A Height= 8'-0"  ,  so  Robert Wadlow's Exceptionality Ratio R is  when larger measurements define better performance, and the reciprocal when  lower measurements define better performance (e.g. track events that are timed).  Then for  A Standing Long Jump= 12'  and

    A100m Sprint= 10 sec,

    H Standing Long Jump= [ 8'11 / 8' ] 12' = 13'4.5(4.08m)

    H100m Sprint= [ 8' / 8'11" ] 10 sec = 8.97 sec

    Robert Wadlow's height exceptionality, is as if he jumped 13'4.5"(4.08m) in the standing long jump, and it's as if he ran 8.97 sec in the 100m.

    See the following table generated for some famous people, who represent sports, human age longevity, and extreme height.  The table shows Hypothetical Exceptionality in Other Events, H, generated for various individuals with  Exceptionality Ratio R:

    Analysis of the table data:

    For myself, I have included data for 16 ft., 17 ft., and 18 ft. standing long jumps—the reason being I certainly think I am capable of an 18 ft. standing long jump, at least, if not better.  As I have already previously explained, I do not think I was much far off from 18 ft. in 1995(SEE paragraph after Claim 2 in Point 4).  Of course, one day I will have to back this up.  I haven't for some time and I blame it mainly on lack of access to facilities. 

    Next, the purest accuracy of this table would ultimately come from how closely equivalent the A values are for each event.  For example, how closely equivalent is the assumed A value of 10 sec for the 100m sprint, to the A value of 8 ft. for height, and right on down the line for the other events.  Any divergence in equivalence among the events, will show up as inaccuracies in the table.  However, I don't need to apply the purest standards for my purposes here, and a reasonable approximation should be enough to illustrate my situation.  I think most people will agree that the A values I defined, definitely show a good deal of equivalence, and even if some would suggest changes, they would probably be relatively minor ones.  I could have chosen to base Hypothetical Exceptionality values on the world record for each event, but I chose to base Hypothetical Exceptionality values on equivalent A values instead, because my belief is that basing Hypothetical Exceptionality on A values more accurately describes the human condition, and gets rid of statistical anomalies or unwanted data noise—that is, people who are freaks of nature and are way outside of the box, would be such statistical anomalies.  For example, you wouldn't want to obtain general human Hypothetical Exceptionality values in the standing long jump, that are based on and derived from my performance numbers in the standing long jump, now would you?

    Next, let's analyze the Exceptionality Ratio R.  I want to emphasize that this ratio is a very real measurement value and concept.  And this measurement value is not some fanciful idea made by some bored man, who suddenly took a fancy to writing a book.  Not to insult the general audience of this book, whether you think either way on this issue, but just to drive my point home.  This value R, is derived from 2 values: 1) your best measured performance level P and 2) the value A—not the world record, but close to the world record that defines
