About this ebook

Joy’s reunion with her birth family is tainted by tragedy and as the story of her family unfolds, it becomes ever the more clear the ways in which her separation from the Lunae of Beyond left her, and by extension, her daughter Tisha, in a vulnerable position, open to exploitation by the forces of darkness and the sometimes malevolent machinations of Tisha’s bigamist father, Mark Gordon, whose betrayals are even deeper than they seemed. Letty continues to be stalked by the death omen, and even as Tisha and Joy meet their extended blood family, Letty’s mind is seeming to unravel.

Who is the tall and mysterious Elle, and who was the troubled Victoria?

Why is the condor still following Letty?

    Introduction

    by Amy Bellino

I am Amy Bellino, an aspiring writer and a friend of Sumiko Saulson. Sumiko is the author of tales as Warmth and Solitude. She runs a blog, Things That Go Bump in My Head, at www.SumikoSaulson.com. It includes some wonderful interviews with authors such as Anne Rice, Christopher Rice and Greg Wilkey. Sumiko is an accomplished artist and creator of the comic book Agrippa.

I became friends with Sumiko through The Dinner Party Show, hosted by bestselling authors Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn. We have both made quite a few friendships through the show and discussions on its Facebook Page. The Dinner Party Show has become an integral part of our friendship. Originally we were coming together on Sunday evenings to chat with our hosts and friends, but that evolved into seeking each other out individually for discussions. The majority of the friends we have made on TDPS are fellow writers and bloggers.

It was the natural evolution of writers working together and supporting each other that brought a small group of TDPS loyal listeners into Sumiko’s Beta Reading Group. It has been an honor for me to become a core member of this group. I am in the good company of Phillip Cohen, Buffie Peterson, Michael Reikowsky, and Serena Toxicat as well as many others.

Now some of you may be asking What is a Beta Reader?

A Beta Reader is someone who reads the manuscript and makes suggestions or corrections, much like a proofreader or an editor would do. We give our impression of the story and let the author know what is working well and what might be superfluous. It is sort of like having an editorial staff with varying styles and preferences coming from many different backgrounds and education working together in the same virtual room on the same manuscript.

Since The Moon Cried Blood is being re-released as a series of novellas, most of the Beta Readers work with each installment to the series as a stand-alone work. They don’t know what is coming next. They can focus on how this novella is building on the one previously released.

I am one of the lucky few who received the original book, The Moon Cried Blood. I have had the pleasure of reading the entire story. I have seen first hand how Sumiko has made changes to the storyline to make it easier to follow the genealogy of the family. I have seen how she has taken our suggestions and comments and used them to improve on what was already a wonderful work of fiction.

The Moon Cried Blood series is a powerful tale involving cycles of the moon and how it affects generations of a family, tearing them apart as well as bringing them together. It is a captivating thrill ride, running from danger both natural and unnatural while coming of age and dealing with fear, death of loved ones and personal discovery.
