About this ebook

A Dangerous Creatures Novella

Gabriel has been in hiding. Ever since being kidnapped and tortured by werewolves, then being turned into one of them, he's had to keep a low profile. Werewolves are a hunted species, considered dangerous to mankind. If he was found, he'd be put down. Even though he's taken over the pack and tamed others who have come to call him alpha, the humans wouldn't want him in their midst.

Neither would the woman he loves. It's better if she thinks he's dead.

Mina Swanson has always been a hunter, but she never put more effort into her work since Gabriel was murdered by shifters. His body was never found. They rarely leave one behind. She's still on a mission, and when she and her team find a pack of wild werewolves, their plan is simple.

Go in. Dispatch the pack. Get out. Get paid.

Except for when she and her team are caught, and the wild creatures prepare to cook Mina alive over an open fire.

She never expects Gabriel to come to her rescue. Or for him to be an alpha werewolf.

Now she has a choice to make. Put her lover out of his mysery, or join him...

Gonna Make You Howl - Mandy Rosko

    1

Mina Swanson was fast losing the feeling in her right foot. Mostly because the rope tied around it was too damned tight. That, and all of her weight was now hanging from that spot as she dangled upside down over a fire pit. They didn’t even have the decency to tie both of her legs when they’d strung her up, which put her at an awkward angle, and it was really starting to hurt.

The blood rushing to her face, and the puke inducing upside-down view of everything as she swung around like a mouse being held by its tail above the mouth of a cat, wasn’t so great. Werewolves were a wild, brutish species, and many were cheering, roaring, and beating their clawed fists against scarred and dirty chests.

Todd and Matty were over there, off to the side, locked up in a crude cage made of thick birch sticks. They were tied up inside of it, too.

Mina had been inside of that thing for a night. If there had been a weak spot, she or Todd or Matty would have found it and escaped. For a bunch of mindless animals, these wolves really knew how to tie a knot and make a cage.

It was kind of strange to realize these werewolves, as wild and crazed as they were, were still capable of building something so solid.

Another strange thing was how they wanted to cook their meat before they ate it, which was why several of the dirty, shirtless men pulled together logs and timber for a fire right beneath her.

That was starting to make it a little too real; seeing each one of these men gathering the supplies they needed to cook her alive over an open fire.

Todd yelled at them, trying to get their attention as he kicked at the wooden bars of his cage. He was mostly ignored. Matty was silent and pale. This was only his first mission since getting his hunter's license. Mina’s heart ached for him. Weird, since she was the one about to get fried first. She might want to save a little of that sympathy for herself.

Maybe it was because he was just a kid and about to see someone get burned alive in front of him, which was a prelude to what would be happening to him when these wolves got hungry enough. Even if he happened to survive, the memory of this day was going to stay with him for the rest of his life.

Let her go! You dirty motherfuckers! Come and get me! Todd screamed.

Ever the gentleman, wanting to take the place of a lady. Mina tried not to look at him, because if she did, seeing him upside down, she’d puke.

That actually might not be such a bad idea. It would definitely make lighting a fire harder if she barfed all over their timber.

The wolves were probably choosing to cook her first because she had a couple more curves to spare.

Mina bet she looked like a fish on a hook, helpless and pathetic as she wiggled around. If she’d had her knives on her, this wouldn’t be a problem and she could get down, but the wolves had been shockingly thorough when they’d searched her, Todd, and Matty. Their weapons were removed.

You guys don’t want to cook a lady. Come on, it’s gross eating a person, Mina said. They weren’t even going to add spices or bread her. Reconsider this; you’ll only make it worse when others find out about it!

The Head Office for Paranormal Containment and Study didn’t take too kindly to these sorts of situations.

She got a few glances for that, but not much else. The shifters didn’t speak to her. They hadn’t said one word to her or the others since they’d arrived. They didn’t even speak to each other. Not in words she could understand.

It seemed to be mostly growls and snarls, even a couple of yips and barks. That seemed to be how they communicated with each other, but there was clearly some intelligence in there. There had to be.

Even though they were all so caked in mud she could barely see the skin beneath it. They walked around naked, and their hair was as dirty as their bodies. Most looked like they hadn’t had a haircut in years.

And yet, despite the caveman thing they all sported, someone pulled out an old lighter and approached.

Todd screamed at them some more as he viciously shook the cage and yanked on the bars, fighting to get out. Someone snarled at him, baring their teeth, but that didn’t stop Todd from snarling back and continuing to yell.

Mina couldn’t pay attention to him anymore. Her eyes were locked on the upside down flame that approached her, the flicker of death coming right her way, and she couldn’t do anything about it.

She waved her hands, as though that would push her away from the coming lighter, or push back the rogue holding it.

Don’t do this! Please don’t do this!

She reached out to grab at the man when he knelt down, but
