    The Networking Ninja Economy

We all feel it, there is a change coming over our world. We are at one of those unique crossroads in history when changes happen so fast that they sweep all the pieces from the board and level the playing field. The twentieth century saw the culmination of the industrial revolution making manufactured goods cheap, easy and readily available. This made it possible for corporations to take on a larger role, with companies reaching enormous sizes, many times larger than the biggest had been before.

Then came the information age, with loads of data being disseminated at a tremendous rate, making it possible for anyone to learn anything they were willing to spend the time to understand. This came to a head with the invention and establishment of the public internet. Now, many times the data contained in the world's largest libraries is available at your fingertips.

These two occurrences caused a consolidation of sorts in corporate terms with fewer and fewer companies controlling more and more of the economic landscape. All the while, the vast majority of all workers were still self-employed, or worked for micro businesses that employ five or fewer. This created a huge bubble of wealth, resources, influence and power at the tops of the largest corporations. Anything was possible for them, but the tide is turning.

Through the creation of new media, as represented by the written, video, visual and audio media created by average users on the internet every day, small companies and individuals are regaining their voice. And it is being heard. Social media is at the forefront of this. While it is hosted by mega corporations, (Facebook is expected to be the first ever trillion dollar company) it is driven by its individual members and their creative enterprises. A simple video of someone's child or pet doing something humorous can garner a larger audience than a Hollywood blockbuster, or the latest TV smash hit! And it can happen overnight!

In an environment where things are moving so fast, there is a serious advantage to being quick, agile, and flexible. Large corporations still have the edge when it comes to big budget production and promotion. In the past most small businesses have been at a serious disadvantage, and competition between them for an ever shrinking local market has made it all but impossible for them to succeed.

We believe there is a better way. We think there is great opportunity to be seized by small companies and lone freelancers, if they are willing to change the way they see things. Those who are willing to see others, even in the same business, as potential partners to make lucrative deals with, rather than competitors to be eliminated.

Whether we like it or not, the age of the giant corporation is coming to an end. It may not happen suddenly, but with the resources available to the average individual via technology, it won't continue to make sense to tie yourself to a giant corporation, limiting your options. In fact, the last great hurdle to this is being legislated away as we speak in insurance law that will make good benefits as attainable for the self-employed as they are for VPs in the biggest corporations.

Not only can small companies and individuals access resources that were not available just a few short years ago, but more and more, services and products are being sought online. This gives small companies a level playing field when it comes to making an impression. Many small companies present themselves better online than larger companies that may not place the same value on digital marketing.

If you have been in the small business community for any length of time, you probably already realize the wealth of talented people that own and operate their own businesses. In fact, you may consider yourself an underdog when it comes to competing with some of them. We hope this guide will clear that up for you and open your mind to a new way of understanding and thinking about business relationships, one where your closest competition may become your greatest asset, rather than your greatest threat. And seemingly unrelated businesses may become your greatest source of new leads.

    This new mindset
